Division B
lydianed (Lydians) defeated paulmcneil (Thracians) 42-14
After being on the wrong end of a couple of defeats to Paul's Thracian hordes hiding in woods (see his crushing defeat of my Gauls in Classical Antiquity) this was a welcome change of form. Faced with the Thracian's hiding (once again) in woodland, the Lydians withdrew, giving the appearance of refusing battle. This drew out the Thracians. Hoplites and armoured lancers were overall too strong for their opponents and held off a ferocious and desperate attack on the right flank while rolling up the left. I find those Thracian spearmen...offensive. GG

klayeckles (persian) vs Triarii (carthage) 55:27
an interesting match up with similar armies...carthage with more quality, persians with more troops and mobility. a river narrowed the battlefield and the carthage artillery guarded the flank from wandering persian cavalry. So the persians had to abandon their usual flanking moves and go with a different plan...they ran for a large woodland on the left flank while a few other troops lingered in the center, making for an enticing carthage attack. when the Carthaginians closed in on the slow moving troops some of the persians in the woods that were headed to meet the carthage right, reversed and came back out of the woods surprising the overextended carthaginian interlopers with an internal out flank. the rest of the fight was an even affair, but with an entire wing decimated and some fortuitous persian dice rolling it was over quickly.

Semi Final
Geffalrus (Ptolemy Side) defeats rexhurley (Seleucid Side) 45-16. Vengeance for Palmyra has been achieved.
The Ptolemaic right wing led by Galatians and mercenary pikes slammed into the Seleucid left wing of Persian archers and Irregular Foot, routing them utterly. On the left wing, the Ptolemaic heavy cavalry withdrew in the face of superior numbers and elephants. The eventual clash was delayed until well after the phalanx lines collided. The impact of pike vs. pike went largely in the Ptolemy's favor as lady luck manifested in physical form amidst the phalanx and proceeded to smash Seleucid sarissa left and right. Sorry Rex.......

Division B
Triarii - Kingdom of Soissons 461-486 AD vs Morbio - Ptolemaic 55-30 BC. Evening falls and saves the Ptolomaic 50-31 - draw.
A classic game that went all the way to turn 24.
Ptolomaics sent out light troops supported by Cavalry as the Romans ground their way across the map they suffered and lost a good HI unit to missile break but caught a good proportion of the Ptolomaic lights and their cavalry and honours were fairly even with both armies reduced by about 12%.
The Ptolomaic main force was finally located on two hills just two squares in from the baseline screened on right and left by woods. an ambush was also spotted in woods forward in the left centre.
After a lot of shuffling units around and with Limitati screening off the ambush the Romans attacked. Though uphill with numbers and flanking cavalry prevailed as night fell only four units remained on the hills two being disrupted and two flanked. One more turn (or a single rally of one of my x4 routing HI units all who were more than halfway back home) would have done it I am sure. (Given my comments about rallying I feel FoGII is laughing at me)
Anyway I am claiming a moral victory after moving all the way across the map and then attacking uphill - thanks Morbio for a really excellent game it really was great fun.

Weekly round-up
A victory for dkalenda (Lysimachid) in his last match against previously unbeaten klayeckles (Achaemenid Persian) means that he was won Division A for the second season running. klayeckes will finish second. In Division B another win for rexhurley (Moorish) makes him firm favourite to take second place and in Division C there were 2 wins for lydianed (Gallic) to move him into the top half of the table. At the bottom the relegation place will be taken by either cromlechi (Hannibal in Africa) or Najanaja (Roman). All fixtures have been completed in Division D.
Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
dkalenda (Division A) 3 matches and finished
paulmcneil (Division C) 4 matches
Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 43 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 35 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 39 out of 45 matches completed
Division D - 45 out of 45 matches completed
These are excellent match completion rates. Division B is a little on the slow side.
