Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
The mechanics of choosing points before the battle will add another messaging step to what is already cut and paste intensive. My first choice would be to leave as is if increasing for all battles isn't on the cards
I generally end up setting up 80-90 percent of my games, so would it be OK set up as 1600 pointers and ask opponents to set up alternatives if they want to play meduim, I think this will save me time and messaging. I prefer larger games, most people don't like to initiate the set up.

Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
No, it will not. Players will express a preference for medium or large battles before the season starts. That preference will be shown in the first post of each "Arrange Your Matches Here" thread. Players will just match their own preferred size of battle with the preferred size of their opponent. If they are same size, no problem. If they are different sizes, the match will be played at the default size.General Shapur wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 6:50 amThe mechanics of choosing points before the battle will add another messaging step to what is already cut and paste intensive. Not necessary. Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
If my opinion has any bearing, I favor retaining 1200 pt divisions/options. I'm a relatively experienced H2H FOG2 player who intends to participate for the first time in the October 2020 DL. I find 1600 pt games too large for my tastes, especially if I need to finish nine (9) games in the allotted time-frame. I'm much more inclined to limit myself to the 1200 pt divisions instead even though I have great interest in the 1600 pt divisional army lists. I suspect most other newbies will concur. I am looking forward to joining DL play.

phoyle3290 – Hunnic, Western 376-454 AD with Germanic Foot Tribes 260-599 AD allies defeats Bluefin - Scot-Irish 50 BC-476 AD - 52-10
Tough match for Bluefin. I had a pretty big chain reaction following his last turn that drove my score up. If his chariots arrived a little earlier (had to go around a large forest), the battle most likely would have been much different.
Good playing and thanks for the game!

Division D
rs2excelsior (Viking, Ireland 900-1049 AD with Scots 851-1051 AD allies) beat Bluefin (French 888-1049 AD) 64-47
A hard-fought battle on a map that was, frankly, awful for the French. However, my opponent declined the reroll I offered, so we fought on the map we were given. The center was dominated by a massive rough terrain hill, with small open areas on the flanks. Viking shieldwalls and huscarls deployed on either flank, while the Irish and Scots took the center.
The French deployed back and to the flanks, with some massed archers and crossbows in the center. My medium infantry pushed forwards, driving off the French skirmishers and massed ranged units. On the left, the Viking infantry blunted the attacks of the lancers and heavy foot, and supported by their mounted huscarls started pushing the French back. The mediums came off the hill and went to join the fight on the left flank. On the right, French mounted and dismounted lancers advanced against the Viking infantry, which formed a three-sided square to try and resist being outflanked. The French cavalry did manage to get in around the rear, however, and that force was mostly destroyed - although they also broke the dismounted lancers opposing them. After coming out into the open the medium auxiliaries proved rather fragile and I was worried they'd collapse and tip things, but the French just didn't have the numbers and despite heroic resistance from the dismounted lancers they were overwhelmed. It looked like it might be a draw on time, but an autobreak or two on the second to last turn pushed it over the edge.
Not a good picture of the forces at the end, but one of the overall map, to show just how tough a fight this was for the French with minimal medium options: And that's it for me this season. Tons of fun, as always, and thanks to everyone for playing - and Pete for organizing this awesome event! See y'all next time!

Morat (Ostrogoths/Franks) beat hscic (Palmyrans) 50-14.
A game were the stubbornness of the Ostrogoth cavalry overcame stiff Palmyran resistance. After initial skirmishing, the Ostrogoths took on the Palmyran centre and broke it while holding off the Palmyran assault on the flank.
Thanks to hscic for a good game.

Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
Next season will be a mixed season. Classical Antiquity will trial this new idea of pantherboy where players will nominate their preference for 1200 or 1600 point matches. I think the default size will be set at 1200pts so players preferring 1200pts will play all their matches at that size. Players who prefer 1600pts will only play at that size against each other. Then Late Antiquity and the Themed Event will continue at 1200pts and Early Middle Ages and Biblical at 1600pts next season.Badger73 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 6:30 pmIf my opinion has any bearing, I favor retaining 1200 pt divisions/options. If the trial is successful then it will be rolled out right across the tournament in Season 10. The only concern I have at the moment is that the proportion of 1600pts battles will actually drop as a result of this change. We'll have to see what happens.

Macedonczyk(Byzantine+North Africa Arab) defeats nyczar (Frankish 751-887 AD with Croatian 625-849 AD allies) 40:10
Frankish's army attacked very strongly concentrated on a narrow section of the front which about every second field had a rough terrain. This allowed me to position the Skoutatoi in front of the rough terrain and the Lancers in front of the plain terrain and lock and shoot the enemy until my left wing reached the battlefield
