Hats off to gamercb!!
Just a quick mention for gamercb, who just lost a quite close Quarter-Final against pantherboy, after winning his 3 previous matches. I think he has to be our "player of the tournament" given that he is currently rated 131st out of 144 in the FOG2DL ratings. Well played gamercb.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see how gamercb does in the DL with the Scots/Irish.

Semi-final
ConstantinIX (Arab Conquest 638-684 AD) beat klayeckles (Khorasanian 821-1003 AD with Dailami allies) 62-58
I would like to say it was easy. But it was not.
We got a map with a medium rough hill in the middle. The Khorasanian occupied it first. This hill will act as a fortress during the first half of the game where most of the enemy infantry stood and also 3 medium archers and lights who were pouring arrows on what was in their reach . I move my whole army on the left to avoid being split by the fortress all this being pursued by the cavalry with bows coming from my right . I was able to trap some units on the left which compensate for the move under a rain of the arrows.
Step by step units were engaged in the open and in the chaotic battle , the veteran spearmen proved their worth by holding the line allowing my own archers to put pressure on the enemy cavalry.
The turning point was a battle between two dailami units each with their respective C&C on the side on the hill. A ninja javelin light infantry flanked the dailami enemy, got a disruption result and killed enemy C&C . At the end , the arab front was pierced and some rogue enemy cavalry units created Chaos but a little bit too late ro reverse the result.
In the last turn, my last superior expert bowman cavalry unit was put down to 96 men on the 235 initial numbers. The specialists will appreciate how close it was ...
Thanks klayeckles for this great game !

a truly great match. every unit played its part to the very end. on my last turn i had a couple chances to steal the victory but failed. Every arrow was fired...many more than once, the vet. arab spearmen proved once again to be the best unit in the game. almost my entire cav force was in his rear pounding away with arrows then charging the disrupted units, but by the time i finally penetrated to the interior my own rear was crumbling and lessor troops falling victim to the remaining sup. vets. No remorse, as i faced a great general...and both our battle plans were very solid. Fighting with only one remaining general likely sunk my chances...i failed to leave sufficient sacrifice to lady luck--and in a battle like this i needed some. Best of luck oh great general of the arab conquest!CONSTANTINIX wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 10:37 pm ConstantinIX (Arab Conquest 638-684 AD) beat klayeckles (Khorasanian 821-1003 AD with Dailami allies) 62-58

Final
ConstantinIX (Arab Conquest 638-684 AD) beat pantherboy (Achaemenid Persian 553-546 BC) 48-20 %
The map was a desertic one with several hills. I chose to defend as an advance towards hills occupied by bowmen would have meant a obvious defeat.
The persian move forwards on the whole line trying to outflank my left side but exposing his center in a flat terrain in order to keep contact with his attacking right wing . I rush forwards on the center screened by light infantry , trying to resist on the left and calling back my cavalry from the right.
The achaemenid center didn't resist but my left flanck was beaten and my right flank in retreat under volleys of arrows. Some of my center units move to the right to stabilize my right flank. The rest of my center moved to the left and, helped with the remnant of my left flanck, defeated the opposing units which was enough to get the victory.
I will post more screenshots tonight

Final - ConstantinIX (Arab Conquest 638-684 AD) beat pantherboy (Achaemenid Persian 553-546 BC) 48-20
Some very tough opponents there. Both tyronec and CyberHetman are having a big impact in the Digital league and the semi-final with klayeckles went right to the wire.
The KO Tournament will be returning in the spring of 2022.

The tournament is now finished with ConstantinIX the new champion. Both he and the defeated finalist, pantherboy, will receive prize vouchers from Slitherine for their efforts. My thanks to everyone who participated and made it such a thrilling and enjoyable event to run.
