Britcon ...

... is the UK's biggest multi-period, multi-ruleset wargames competition
... has events in over a dozen different rulesets and periods for you to take part in
... offers onsite Student accommodation and an onsite bar
... includes one of the North West's largest 2-day wargames tradeshows
... is held in Manchester only steps away from from Piccadilly Station

Yes, the largest event in the BHGS calendar will be returning (yes, we are in the same place for another year) to the now-familiar surroundings of UMIST in (always-sunny) Manchester over the Friday-Sunday of 12-14th August 2016.

At Britcon this year there will be two Field of Glory periods:

15mm Ancients: 800 points, armies up to 1035 AD (safely excluding Knights), 800 points on around 60" by 40" tables (so we can fit 5 games in on a 24 foot run of tables if we need to basically)

15mm Medieval armies from 1077 AD, on proper sized tables

Games will be in the region of 3 hours 20 mins plus a 1-10 min(s) variable

Friday 1800 (earliest start), 2030 hours (latest start) - 2300ish close
Saturday 0815-1145, 1230-1600, 1630-2000
Sunday 0830-1200, 1300-1630

All players will play all 6 games, and all 6 games will be scored . (This is following several years of very low takeup for the "drop a round" option, some low-level muttering about the impact on final scores, and a dawning realization that mine and Kevin's lives would be made easier by using the standard BHGS software to manage the draw)

Umpire: TBC
List Checker: Andy Ellis
List Deadline: 20th July

With this being a particularly uninspiring bank holiday weather-wise, equally unsuitable for DIY or going to the seaside, and with - unusually - Zulu not playing on any terrestrial channel either - many of you may be indoors browsing t'internet... in which case the time is ideal to book into Britcon (and the BHGS Challenge...!)

Players entered so far for Britcon are:

With just over 10 weeks to go, we're pleased to be able to report that tickets for Britcon 2016 are flying off the shelves (erm..?) at an unprecedented rate, with competition entries running almost 70% ahead of last year so far (107 vs 64)!

With a host of new periods and themes on offer, including a record-breaking 7 (yes, seven!) different Ancient & Medieval gaming competitions, plus all of the regular favourites this year's Britcon is shaping up to be our biggest so far this decade!

Over the next few weeks you'll also see regular posts on our Facebook page listing all of the traders who will be taking part in the Britcon Trade show, and highlights of some of the massive demo games that we will be hosting as well.

Periods which will be on offer at Britcon this year include a host of NEW events!
Blucher Napoleonic 6mm (New Period for Britcon after it's successful introduction at Roll Call 2016)
DBA (New Period for Britcon - one-day event, Saturday only)
L'Art del la Guerre 15mm (New 8-game period at Britcon for this internationally-popular Ancients set!)
Mortem et Gloriam (First public event for this new ruleset due to be published in July!)

We also have our regular favourites:
Bolt Action 25mm - supported by Warlord Games
DBMM 15mm
Epic Armageddon
Field of Glory: Ancients & Medieval 15mm - 2 separate pools
Field of Glory: Renaissance 15mm
Flames of War 15mm
Guildball (32-player 2-day event supported by Steamforged Games)
Saga 25mm - The Northern Melee
Warhammer 40k

Spaces at all events are still available for booking via the booking site:

We now have 5 demo and participation tables confirmed:

Austerlitz – refight on a 16' x 6' table from our regular demo team from Mailed Fist Club in Manchester

Hunt the Tiger – Justin Taylor from Veni Vidi Vici will be demoing a scenario for the "Action All Fronts" WW2 rules, based on the film Fury, where one Tiger ambushes four Sherman tanks, destroying three of them before itself being destroyed.

Spartan Games Demo team – showcasing Dystopian Wars and Dystopian Legions, Firestorm Armada, Halo: Fleet Battles and Halo: Ground Combat (These games are all available from Magister Militum at the show)

HOMABOD "Hordes of Models and Buckets of Dice – Gunpowder Period" Quick-play rules demo from author Nigel Emsen, with an 8x6 foot 54mm "1815" demo and participation game

The Lance & Longbow Society present the Battle of Baugé, 22nd March 1421 in 28mm. This battle took place during the Hundred Years War after Agincourt. Henry V's eldest brother Thomas, Duke of Clarence (at the time the heir to the English throne) took on a Franco-Scots army and was killed. The game will be a "Join In Demo Game" where passers-by are encouraged to join in and take a command (there are 6). Rules are a cut down version of Lion Rampant with the rules on one side of an A5 sheet and the units and their stats on the other.

Dave was/is the list 'checker' for the Northern League. Last year the first round was 850 points and he passed a 900 point list
So keep your eye on him :D

Oops - I've tweaked it so there are more spaces in Ancient now (the Eventbrite system needs an upper limit of tickets, and I always try to set it at something vaguely sensible so people can get an idea as to how many players might actually enter any given theme).

Currently we are on 23 & 9 players respectively for Ancient & Medieval FoG, so both are now over the minimum viable threshold - more Medieval players would be welcome (and more likely to pick up a prize!)

Or perhaps they are playing their cards close to their chest, or need to write a new list now
