Forged In Battle Team Challenge - 5th & 6th October 2019

Post by petedalby »

Following a well-received inaugural event Solent Wargames Club would like to invite you back to Sarisbury Green in Hampshire for another team competition.

Venue details are here: http://www.sarisburygreen.org.uk

We are close to Southampton Airport for those coming from further afield and may be able to arrange lifts to and from the airport.

This will be a 3-player Team event, 1 player in each pool. We already have expressions of interest from Gloucester, MAWS, Oxford, Plymouth, Reigate & Wessex. Individual entries are also welcome provided we can team you up with 2 other players. Please email Pete Dalby at peterdalby1960@gmail.com if you wish to attend by the 31st July so that we can secure the venue. Space may be limited so don’t leave it too late. I already have 2 entries after the Belgarum weekend.

Rules to be used are V3. Figure Scale 15mm Specific Period/Theme options & restrictions are as follows:

Pool 1 Sticks and Stones – 800AP Table Size 60” x 40”

Any list, any date but the following troop types are not permitted – any Armour or Heavy Armour, Pikes, Lances or Elephants. Any list where one or more of these is mandatory may not be used.

Pool 2 Horsey Horsey – 850AP Table Size 72” x 48”

Any list, any date but armies must field at least 425 AP of Cavalry or Camelry, Bow, XB, or Bow*. NB – LH are not Cavalry. Cataphracts are not cavalry either.

Pool 3 Slightly Less Heavy Metal – 900 AP Table Size 60” x 40”

Any list, any date but armies must field at least 450 points of Heavily Armoured or Armoured Troops of which at least 250 points must be spent on HvA. Commanders do not count towards this total.

Army Lists must come from the new Books. Where your army of choice no longer appears in the new books we will accept old lists on a case by case basis. This is just for you Mr Espie but may also appeal to others.

We will offer 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. All games to be 3 hours with the exception of round 2 which will be 2 hours 45 mins.

Team Entry is £75 per team or £25 per individual.

Please contact Pete Dalby at peterdalby1960@gmail.com for information on how to pay.

Army lists to Phil Powell at fogamlists@bhgs.org.uk by Friday 20th September.

Hope to see you there.

Forged in Battle Team Challenge – Final Arrangements

Good morning all – just a few weeks to go before the best attended FoG Event of 2019. The trophies for the top 2 teams are finished.

Image

Image

We have some great prizes again from both our sponsors, Forged in Battle and Precision Wargames Supplies Limited.

Please remember to get your army list to Phil Powell - fogamlists@bhgs.org.uk by Friday 20th September.

I will be providing tea, coffee & biscuits which will be available at £1 per day. It would be really helpful if players could bring their own cups this year please. I will have some spare mugs but can’t lay my hands on as many as I did last year.

If you attended last year we are in exactly the same place. http://www.sarisburygreen.org.uk

For those new to the event please go to the back door to gain entry. The Sarisbury Green Community Centre is behind the cricket pitch and there is plenty of free parking on site. Their directions:

“FROM THE A27, turn into Barnes Lane then right into Holly Hill Lane and immediate right into The Green. Then keeping Sarisbury Cricket Green on your right hand side, pass the children's play area, the tennis courts and large car park, and we are in the corner on the left hand side.”

The first game starts at 09.15 so please arrive in good time to grab a drink and get yourself settled in. The first round draw has been made and will be published once all lists have been approved.

Any problems on the day – you can reach me on 07770 333303.

All the best

Still waiting while Jon Akers considers his position on the naughty step. Hopefully he's not on a Thomas Cook holiday

First Round Draw

Post by petedalby »

We are struggling to make contact with Jon. If anyone is able to contact Jon on social media or similar please do so. I am still hopeful that he is okay and will be able to join us but with only a week to go I thought I'd reveal the 1st Round Draw. The draw was made independently by a club member, Ian Newell.

Oxford vs Plymouth
Gloucester vs MAWS
Not Plymouth vs Not Oxford (aka Oxbridge)
Solent vs Wessex
Reigate vs Mercenaries

As Brian is using an old book 1 list I will have a copy of 'Blood & Gold' with me if anyone wants to check out the Eastern Woodland Culture list. (or the Mighty Redskins as Brian calls them.)

Please remember to bring a mug if you want tea or coffee! And have a safe journey down.

All the best

All, just to let you know I’ve heard back from Jon Akers on Facebook. I don’t have any details except he’s unable to join us this weekend but hopes to do so at Warfare.

Thanks for a great weekend Pete and all my opponents, considering we played all top 3 teams including beating MAWS and almost Solent plus getting two bye scores as well not a bad effort.
I think you have my score wrong though,I can't remember my score against Paul B ,something in the 20's but with the rest it should be somewhere in the 100's, I had 59 today.

Many thanks to Pete for organising the event. Thanks also to the players. Really enjoyable set of games: which;in my case; could have easily gone either way. Feel the Steel! Ian
