As long you check, once in a while, your CD/DVD medias that should be enough. :)

Gamers simply refuse to think logically some times.
The best example, the discs mailed out. Frankly I can't think of a single valid reason for them. I can burn a single data file to a damned disc and put it in a dvd case for a hell of a lot less than 10 bucks. The item is worth barely 50 cents. The 10 bucks is all about the hassle of processing and shipping something the buyer could have done themselves. It costs me less than the cost of a hot chocolate to make anything including a blueray copy of anything on the market.

But like I mentioned earlier, convenience. How much will I pay to be simply just plain lazy?
Because that is all it is to me, a means to be lazy. I have the dlc files, and it is not a tragedy to install 10 files with 10 serials.
I can sit doing that while watching a TV show and give it no thought.
But a single file, very lazy friendly :)
Having had two of my computers go belly up in a year and a half time span, I can attest to the fact that having the original discs is nice. Call me old-fashioned, but I'll pay more to get the hard-copy. Same deal with music CDs and movie DVD/Blu-Ray.
You missed the point. I am not interested in the 10 dollar disc, because I can make the exact same disc for pennies.
I have a spindle of blanks right here. 100 disks, 25 bucks. I can and also do have the files on my laptop, and a desktop, and they could be on flash drives or tablets, anything that can hold data. But there is no reason to pay 10 bucks so that they can mail it to you.

You are old fashion, and you ARE paying more. Something like 40 times more.

So you're a cheapskate and I'm a spendthrift apparently. Who the F--K cares? And I'd rather pay for an external hard-drive or a cloud back-up than burning CDs. That seems very mix-cassette tape to me.

I am quite pleased to read about the planned and apparently very generous rebate for customers of the DLCs, I bought all 10 and a ~90% discount, that's absolutely OK for me, very fair.

But we should not forget that Panzer Corps is very likely to be released on STEAM as well.

One of my friends stopped buying the DLCs once he read it's going to be released on Steam. Now I really wonder if I should buy the Mega Pack of something I already have if I am likely to buy it again on Steam, but given how Steam/Valve work a discount for customers who bought Panzer Corps already at Slitherine seems highly unlikely.
(I know many prefer to be independent from Steam an will prefer the Mega Pack, but please do not deviate from topic with this kind of Steam debate.)

Due to not knowing when and if Panzer Corps is coming to Steam, I decided not to buy the Mega Pack for now, I already have all DLCs, after all. I also wonder if there will be future DLCs or if rather sequels ("Panzer Corps: Allies" etc.) like Afrika Korps will be released.

We have no idea if it is going to be released on Steam, we just submitted it to Steam Greenlight in the hope we would get voted in.

There is no certainty, we might not get voted in or it will take another 9 months, the whole procedure of what is required is pretty vague and Steam staff keep complete radio silence.

We don`t know what is required, all we could do is submit it to Greenlight and wait and see...all the rest is pure speculation and guessing.

To be honest, we don`t like the whole procedure as we are totally in the dark, I find it a very strange and vague procedure, not really fitting a good publisher, but due to popular request we are now on Greenlight and await until we get a go or a no... basically we know as much as all of you do, nothing... it is a mystery for us as well.

Actually, if you read more carefully, you will also read I am not in a hurry for Slitherine Group to fret too fully over making the discount too significant :)

No, the truth is, I am merely stating the obvious, which seems to be only obvious to me some times, that paying 10 bucks to get that which any proper PC better be capable of in 2013, is crazy levels of peculiar in the extreme. I can't fathom how it is they need so badly to ship disks to people. My PC was able to perform this function 10 years ago too.

The only reason it is so easy to do, is because when you buy the installer from Slitherine group, there is genuinely no strings attached. Being made to need a serial is NOT intrusive or annoying in any fashion if at no time the user has absolutely no need to care if the target computer never ever goes online at all. Additionally, I can install my Slitherine Group games on every single computer I own, and I could do it daily if I was weird enough to want to. There is no limit to the amount of times I can install the game. And there is no hoops to jump through to burn the file to a disk or to place the file in some location being it laptop drive or a flash drive or in some online cloud storage concept.

I am fully conversant in use of programs that can rip DRM out of anything. The fact that it is moronically simple might be part of the reason for such draconian thinking from some companies. But when you look at the 'wonderful' launch success of the recent Sim City that demands you be online the whole time you are playing the game. Heck I wouldn't tolerate that if the game was free.

I own all of the DLC, I think it was money well spent.
I'd like a one file methodology, why not eh.
I'd like it to be cost friendly. Why not.
I personally think the effort to construct a means of selling to past supporters based on increments of purchase while noble, sounds like a lot of work too.
I think it would be easier to re release the base game with the DLC built in and just offer a one shot cost reduction if you owned at least 5 or more DLC. Sorry but I can't get excited about a 10% or 20% reduction based on having 2 dlc already, but that's the prerogative of the owners.

PC is a 30 dollar download. The games DLC are a 60 dollar value to me via download. That's 90 bucks one gulp.
I think the base game and the DLC likely could be merged to something closer to 60 bucks. Giving me a 50% discount on a 60 dollar purchase if I have 5 or more of the DLC is not so bad. For 30 bucks, they get to move either the equal of the base game again, or they unify the DLC for me for half price and they just decide to call it there as I already bought the game once.

Would I buy this file for 30 bucks?
Hey I might eh.
I KNOW there will be all sorts that make a habit of grumbling about the cost of everything.
Those are the cheapskates :)

The only person worth talking and emailing is Anna Sweet if you want things get done like direct publishing. I would not waste my time with trying talking anyone else over there regarding distribution.

It is a nice idea to install all DLC at once with a single file but eventually it would be also fine to have a single installation file for PanzerCorps, AfrikaKorps and all DLC. If I am honest I have no idea how to install all twelve setups on a new computer, I will have to search a thread in this forum. Wouldn't it be easier to install programm and all extensions by one setup?

Afrika is not included in the DLC pack. This is the Grand Campaign megapack.

Steam apparently lets you give out keys to any existing owners so if that's possible it wont matter where you bought the game as you'll be able to register it on Steam. However Greenlight doesn't really work - we didn't think it would but thought we'd try it. Steam have said so themselves and want to scrap it so it's unlikely PzC is not going to get on Steam via Greenlight. We've talked to various people at Valve but until they change the process the broken Greenlight system is the only one they use only 2% of games submitted have been released and the process is set up so that turn based wargames cant be selected - basically anything that is niche is going to struggle. The issue is its a popularity contest but where there is no cost to vote, so people can vote for things they don't actually intend to buy so the % that actually follow through on their vote is probably quite low. With wargames you get less votes but the people who vote most likely will buy as that is the nature of a niche. Steam wont be able to use our discount codes so you wont be able to pick up the game via steam with your discounts applied and any Steam release would be long after the discount had ended anyway.

You can see the kind of games that get approved here:
http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/brow ... cepted&p=1

An additional note on the megapack discounts - these will only be valid for 1 month after initial release so don't miss out and wait.

Where can we find info about the megapack discounts?

We'll announce them once we have the plan finalised but its roughly 10% per DLC serial you have registered on the Slitherine site. Once we have worked out how to make it happen we'll let you know.

Thanks for the answers, they were very helpful!

I am sad to hear about the Steam/Greenlight problems. I know three developers who also placed their quite successful games like http://dedalegame.com/ (released on iOS etc.) on Greenlight and they also complained. Basically, Steam took 100 bucks and they never heard of them again. Not even a "no", and useless replies after requests about the status that also infuriated them. Do they really treat everyone like this?

I don't want to blame the Greenlight system too much, in the end it is the people at Steam who decide what gets released! Someone mentioned the name Anna Sweet here, no idea who she is, but maybe it is worth talking to her.

(I still wonder how much butt kissing within the games industry was necessary to get this farce on Steam: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/hotline-miami
No, I am not going too much off-topic, this kind of game and 8-bit style is quite prominent on Steam for some reasons.)

Very sad that it is again this "wargame" and "turn-based" stigma that seems to stop Panzer Corps. We know the game is great and miles ahead of stuff that got already released on Steam and it got lots of extremely good reviews and awards also from non-wargaming magazines. That's apparently still not enough, simply mind boggling! :(

We know Anna Sweet, she is a very capable and friendly person, but sadly Steam staff is not really communicating outside: put it on Greenlight and wait.

I have no doubt PzC series would do quite nice on Steam, but Greenlight is clearly not working, as Steam themselves already has stated in the press...

Even Gabe Newell criticize Steam's approval process and Greenlight itself.

Nobody knows or can/will tell... not with Greenlight and not before Greenlight.

You also don`t get a motivation, nor for a yes or a no, basically you get/got selected or you are ignored.

No explanation why you are/were selected or a motivation, let alone a notification, why you are refused... it is a bit like a mysterious lottery, you just wait and see.

Quoting Gabe Newell:
There’s so much content coming at us that we just don’t have enough time to turn the crank on the production process of getting something up on Steam.
Greenlight is a bad example of an election process. We came to the conclusion pretty quickly that we could just do away with Greenlight completely, because it was a bottleneck rather than a way for people to communicate choice.

But again, it is what it is, and all we can do is wait and see and in the mean time work hard and keep on improving the Panzer Corps series.

To be honest, it is mainly because they have too much games coming in, they hardly have time to cater the AAA big boys, since Greenlight started only 2% was Greenlit, creating a huge, huge bottleneck.

I really believe they have good intentions, their staff is very friendly, but Steam expanded so fast they are running to catch up... It will get solved, but it will take time and good management and rethinking how they can streamline all the games.

I wish them all the luck and we just wait...
