Locking in Medium Cav

Post by Ludendorf »

Medium cav being non-lancer cavalry in my verbiage.

This kind of follows on from the light cavalry conversation. The same trick that forces cavalry and infantry to turn to face light horse (or did before the change) also applies to cavalry and chariots that charge into combat with infantry and are pinned there by light troops. Now, I have mixed feelings about this because if you're a purely melee medium horse and skirmisher army (say a variant of one of the later Persian lists), then this can be the only way of actually getting your horse to stay in combat long enough to get the flank attacks which are necessary to win the battle with that kind of army. However, it can feel like the same kind of exploit at times.

I'm just throwing it out there for discussion.

I really don't think a cavalry charge of any significance is something that can be ignored by infantry. "Medium" cavalry doesn't have the mobility of light cavalry so there's no exploit here in my opinion even if the cavalry is forced to stay in melee.
