Shrunken mounted units

Post by Cunningcairn »

Why do these weird things always happen to me? Have a look at the size of the cavalry unit highlighted in the picture below. Everything was fine until this last end.

Happened to me too. Apparently it's only games started before the update

Perhaps you have Hobbit allies?

It's an inevitable result of an update that has directly affected those units. They've been fixed and will look fine when you start a new battle. I know you see the similar things in cache supported games and we recommend its deletion if theres niggles like this. Your save file is acting like a cache ( though I wouldn't suggest deleting it!).

And this issue was specifically mentioned in the Patch Notes.

Ironically, I would prefer if all units were shrunk like that.

Is there some way I can mod the game myself to get that effect for all units?

Yes, there is a UnitScaling factor in column BI in the /Data/Squads.csv file.

For some reason we are not able to reliably control the scaling of the models when they come out of Max, hence why some units have a scaling factor of 2500. The default value of 0 in the spreadsheet actually produces a scaling factor of 1000. So if you change the ones with a scaling factor of 2500 to 0 (= 1000) and the ones with a scaling factor of 0 (i.e. 1000) to 400, you ought to get the effect you want. You will also need to fiddle with the 3DViewZoom (BL) and 3DViewHeight (BM) values if you want the shrunk units to appear correctly in the 3D view in the UI.

Of course, I must give you the usual advice about not modding your main build, and you absolutely must not do so if you are going to play MP.
