Turn 39. September 30, 1941.
German move: In Finland, the Finish Corp the one in front of the fort at 3 steps is repaired to 6 steps.


Russian move: In Finland the Russians kill the 6 step Finish Corp and it takes a lot; a TAC and SAC and three or four ground attacks from Corps and one Paratrooper to finish of the Finnish Corp. The Russian ground units in Finland are 11 Corps, 1 Paratrooper and 4 Garrison a total of 16 units ground units.


In the North/Center the Germans are at their defensive line for the winter



The Russian advance to fill in the void and see that the Germans are at the Dnepr River line in the Center. A long way to get to Moscow in the Summer of 42, but probably no losses over the winter.


The Russian also advance near Kursk.


In the south Axis minors move in to and capture empty Voronezh and Stalingrad. A Romanian Fighter moves forward to spot Russian Mech, which are pulled back a distance from Stalingrad, in retrospect not back far enough. The Russian Mech are pounded by German double veteran TACs with ground attack strength of 3, One Russian Mech loses 5 steps in two TACs attacks, a second Russian Mech losses 3 steps in probably one TAC attack.


In the south; Russian Corps are sent to recapture Stalingrad, The 10 step Romanian Fighter used for spotting is too close to the Russian Infantry and is overrun twice and left at 3 steps by Russian Corp units, which are now adjacent to Stalingrad. Payback for the Mech bombing! (Seven Romanian fighter steps for eight Russian Mech steps)


With the loss of Stalingrad and the reduced railing the Russian Rail Capacity now stands at 2. I railed one unit, a Mech, this turn and it cost the Russians 3 PPs.

Winter
Something leaves Finland.


Russian move: Russians attack Kharkov with TAC, SAC, Guard Mech and two Corps leave Hungarian Corp at 3 steps. Capture Cherkasy rail station as the Russian cross the Dnepr near Kiev.

Turn 43. December 19, 1941
Severe Winter comes.
No action in the North.


In the South, Kharkov liberated, Kiev and Voronezh attacked. Two Axis minor Corps, south of Kharkov, are attacked with two TACs and a SAC and are force to retreat and both Axis minor Corps are killed after multiple Russian Corp attacks.
Russian partisans appear in an empty city, Vinnitsa. The mines at Krivoj Rog captured. Russian Fighter bombing Kiev is intercepted by German Fighter based in Romania, exchange 2-2.

Turn 44. January 8, 1942
The Americans enter the war.

Second turn of Severe Winter
Situation at the start of the Russian turn in the south.


Russian attack the German Mech with two TACs and a Guard Mech and Mech, The German Mech retreats across the river. Russian Corps finish it off. Two SAC and then a Russian Corp attack the Hungarian Corp on the Donbass mine, it also retreats across the river. Voronezh and the Donbass mine are liberated, Kiev attacked and left at one step. Guard Mech and Armor railed to Kharkov. German garrison that was railed next to Dnepropetrovsk is kill with Armor and Guard Mech.


The north, might as well take the territory that the Germans are giving, Russian garrison move one hex forward, to come in contact with German Corps.

Turn 45. January 28, 1942
With the Americans in the war, the English fleet peaks out into the Atlantic, lets see what the German fleet does.


Third turn of Severe Winter
Situation at the start of the Russian turn in the south.


The Germans do not counter-attack, they just repair. Slowly the Russians are rolling the river line on the Donnet's River. This turn one hex, with one German Corp was pushed to the other side and killed. Kiev was liberated. The Axis have two fighters contesting the sky in the Donetsk Basin battles, no sign of the six German TACs, but I am expecting a counter-attack soon.

No reaction from the German fleet, English fleet moves closer to the German Fleet.


No English naval assets in the Med, Med is static.


Fourth turn of Severe Winter
German move: North nothing.


South, Germans pull back German Mech and sacrifice an Italian Corp, which was railed in next to Stalino.


Russian move: Russians kill the Italian Corp, and continue to roll the Donets river line kill a German Corp. Dnepropetrovsk is surrounded and attack, defending Hungarian Corp left at 2 steps.


In Finland, not much just Russians rail Guard Corp to help man the Dnepr line in the center.

Turn 47. March 9, 1942
Battle for the Atlantic: Surprisingly the German Surface fleet does nothing, just sits there, like they have done most of the game. Three German Subs sink and undefended convoy near England. Later Morris told me, He was really tired and making his move really fast, and was not paying proper attention, so I do feel bad for him.


Allied Naval blob attacks the much smaller Germany fleet, and sink half of the German fleet a BB and two DDs, leaving the German surface fleet with one BB and two DDs left, which we will sink next turn.


Fifth turn of Severe Winter
German move up North, nothing.


German move in the South nothing, except Romanian Corp is offered as a sacrifice.


Russian move: Liberated Dnepropetrovsk, Russians decline the Romanian sacrifice, instead the Russians go into the Defensive mode and pull back from the fighting in the Donbass area. Getting close to Rostov I think is very Dangerous! The German Mechs sitting in the non-severe weather area have effectiveness of 95-100 here in the fifth turn of severe winter weather and intelligence reports say the Germans have build 10-12 Mech and I guess most of them are stuffed right around Rostov in the non-severe weather hexs. It is crazy, the non-severe winter hexs don't have much of an effect! The German Mech in the non-severe winter hex north east of Rostov is at effectiveness of 95 and half a hex higher in the severe winter area the German Mech directly north of Rostov is at an effectiveness of 62 it's like night and day difference. I can not see them but I would bet money there are at least 6 Mech with effectiveness of 95 or higher sitting on that hex row of Rostov in the non-severe winter hexs.

Turn 48. March 29, 1942
Battle for the Atlantic: German Subs attack unprotected convoy. The other half of the German fleet goes to the bottom of the Alantic. Total sunk 2 BB and 4 DDs. So now there seems to be nothing left of the German Navy except Subs, which intelligence estimate to be 10. The Allies now switch to escorting all convoys.


Nothing happening in the Med.

Turn 49. April 18, 1942
Winter
Here come the Germans, out of the non-severe winter hexs, what I can see; nine Mech, a few Armor, most are 90+ effectiveness. I can see two German TACs who are both double veteran (+3 ground attack.) That's what I can see in the two hex rows that the Germans captured this turn. Say a pray for the Ivan's that have to stand in the trenches up to them.


Russian Move: Finland, Russian Armor attacks a Finish Garrison exchange 2-2, Russian armor definitely need more training, a garrison and it's 2-2 exchange.



North, static


South, Russian move, two SACs bomb the German tanks. Russians pull back across the front, forming a line on the Don river. Leaving corps in Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov. Next turn is Summer so All Russian Fighters are place on sentry. Russian Fighters, who are all rookie fighter pilots do not want to face Triple Veteran German Fighters in the summer.

Turn 50. May 8, 1942

First turn of fair weather on the Russian front.

German move: The three entrenched corps left in Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov were vaporized, a couple attacking units are at 9 steps, so I'd say three or four total steps were lost on the axis side total. Also a Russian Guard Mech did not retreat fast enough and was caught by German armor and killed next to Kursk. German mechanized forces make a strong move towards Stalingrad. The Germans now have seven TACs.



Finland front, looks like a German Corp is leaving Finland.

Russian Move: Finland, Russian Armor attacks a Finish Garrison and loses 2-3, Russian armor becomes a Guard and is at 5 steps. Two Russian Mech also railed to Finland.


In the South the Russian pull back across the whole southern front, moving Russian units further North towards Moscow. In the process Stalingrad is abandoned and the Dnepr river line is pulled back to Gomel. Russian Fighters stay on sentry.

Turn 51. May 28, 1942

Russian Front


Case Blue is on the go and German mechanized forces make a strong move towards Caucasus oil fields.


Germans capture Gomel and leave a Russian Corp at 2 steps next to Gomel. Stalingrad and Kursk captured.


Center and North fronts are static.


Finland, Finish Corp attacks Russian Guard Armor and exchanges 1-1, leaving Russian Guard Armor at 4 steps.



Russian Move:
The large size of the German mechanized forces moving towards Caucasus oil fields, cause the Russians to reconsider their defenses. It is decided to rail the Garrisons to Moscow and retreat the Corps into the Caucasus Mountains. The Garrisons not near a rail station head towards Caucasus Mountains.


In the South the Russian pull back across the whole southern front, moving Russian units further North towards Moscow. Russian TAC bomb the Italian Armor escorted by fighter, but Russian Fighters stay on sentry.


North front is static.


Finland, Repair the Russian Guard Armor to 8 steps.


Allies are escorting the convoys, no problem so far, I think the German subs are sent back to France to upgrade.

A contingent of the English navy moves back into the Med, in the process an American DD hits an Italian sub.

Turn 52. June 17, 1942.
German Move:
Four subs sink an English DD.


German Paratroopers getting crazy high experience killing Yugo partisans. They are triple veterans.


Russian Front German move:
Finland nothing


Center, German Corps and TACs attack retreating Russian Corps, one killed, three damaged.


South, Germans decide not to follow retreating Russian into Urals and pull back towards Stalingrad.


Caucasus, Germans capture Krasnodar, killing a Corp. Germans also push a Russian Corp off a mountain top, being off of a mountain the Corp at 3 steps will die next turn. Both oil wells lost and German Armor reach the Caspian Sea hence the Caucasus lose the rail connection to Russia!


Russian Move: Starting with the Caucasus, The Russians abandon Grozny and move into the mountain hexes. Could the Germans actual be going for Baku? I don't think it is possible! The Germans have six Mech, two Armor, and six TACs attacking the Caucasus, probably more coming.




Center, damage Russian Corps retreat into the safety of the Russian lines defending Moscow. Entrenched Garrisons defending Smolensk, Bryansk and Orel. Russian Fighters stay on sentry.




Finland, The Russian do no counter attacking on the Russian Front. The Russian Summer Offense in Finland continues with one attack in Finland; with the help of two SAC bombing attacks (from the north of Moscow) the Finish garrison retreats and the Russians capture the Finnish Nickel mines.

Turn 53. July 7, 1942.
German move:
Caucasus, Germans kill the Corp that was pushed off the mountain top last turn. Germans also kill a Garrison who was not fast enough to make onto a mountain top. Germans take an abandon Grozny. Germans soft up units in the mountain and rough hexes south east of the Maikon oil well with bombing runs.




Moscow front, No German attacks and no movement forward and it is July! The Germans don't even try and take any of the front line cities Smolensk, Bryansk, Orel and Voronezh. The Germans rest and repair what little damage their Corps have. The Germans are re-basing their TACs forward and Maybe they don't like to attack with out the TACs?




Finnish front, Axis try and regain the Nickel mines, but fail. Germans change their mind and decided to send the German unit that was withdrawn from Finland back again.


Atlantic, Four English DDs escorting a convoy and a transport, two German subs attack and sink the transport.


These DDs are fully upgraded and have ASW sub combat of 11, they are too strong for the Germans subs, the two DD sub attacks sink the sub.

In the South , Center and North the Russians don't move, just like the Germans. Russian Fighters stay on sentry.






Things seem stable in Russia for the moment, so the Russians decide to rail more offensive troops to Finland, an Armor and a Corp unit.

Center: Germans see nothing to be gained by attacking, so they Retreat! Maybe back to the Dnepr? It's July 42 !




Caucasus, The Germans attack one mountain hex in the Caucasus, mainly they just bomb with 6 TACs! So only one German ground attacks across the entire Eastern front. The Russian Corp on the mountain amazingly lives and is left at 3 steps with four adjacent attacking Axis units?


Russian move in Finland; attack the Finnish garrison, get a second guard Armor.


Hey, if the Germans are retreating, then the Russians are going to advance. Russians in the center move a bit south, fighter flies in to do some spotting of the retreating Germans

Turn 55. August 16, 1942.
German subs attack American CVs escorting troops.


Russian Front:
Germans retreat further.


In the Caucasus, six German TACs bomb plus ground attacks kill a Russian Corps on a mountain hex, Second Russian Corp on a Mountain hex retreats off the Mountain and is also killed. German SAC bombs the Russian oil well near Baku.


Russian move: The Russians attack Kursk; one SAC one TAC and no Axis fighters intercept, they must be further back. Four Corps attack Kursk and it is captured. The Russians fill in the empty space of the retreating Germans. Fighters fly in for spotting. It appears that the Germans are using the same strategy as last winter to try and minimize winter casualties. Line the Dnepr with German Corps going South as far as they have Corps and move the German Mech and Armor to non-severe hexes in southern Russian around Rostov and maybe further south this winter because the Germans currently own the Caucasus oil wells.

In Finland the Russians attack the Finnish garrison.

Turn 56. September 5, 1942.
Triple veteran German fighters are coming up to Finland.


German moves in the South


Caucasus; Six German TACs bomb away; one garrison is killed a second garrison is left at 2 steps. Russian Corp in the mountains bombed and attacked. German SAC bombs the Russian oil well near Baku. Germans paratroop into an empty Tbilisi, not sure what their up to, seems a little late to try an offense to capture Baku. A German offense on Baku would be dangerous, what would happen in Rostov fell in the upcoming winter fighting it would be a Stalingrad like reenactment.

English CV takes a look at Italy


German move; in Finland, triple veteran TACS bomb Russian Armour. The Germans also have triple veteran Fighters present. Look at the German planes, all red 3's triple veterans.


North is static.


South


Caucasus, four TACs bombing plus ground attacks kill two garrisons and force a retreat of a Russian Corp in the mountains. Germans capture rail station/port on the Caspian Sea. German SAC bombs the Russian oil well near Baku. Still not sure what the Germans are up to on this front, All summer long the Germans did a lot of bombing of entrench Russians in the Mountains? Doesn't seem like a winning strategy for the summer of 42? I don't think the Germans can get to Baku, even in 43.


Russian move: Finland the German Triple veteran TACs (3 Ground Attack and 5 Anti-tank) are too strong for my Guard Tanks have to get my Tanks away! With TACs like that, Russian Armour is useless in fair weather. If it was mid-summer I would rail my Armour to the safety of the Urals, but since it is the end of September and winter is coming soon and the Tanks will be a lot safer from the TACs in the winter, I railed both Armour out of Finland and to Kursk for winter action around Kharkov.


North


South, Russian Mech kill an Italian Corp and liberate Stalingrad. Kharkov would be tough for the infantry so Russian Infantry head toward an easier task, Kiev.
