Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
One results to report:
Milvius Bridge
Constantinus (Edmund) 47/66 vs Maxentius (mcfcivo) 103/96
Edmund 10.7
mcfcivo 7.1
Maxentius's second line troops rushed forward to support the front line. They arrived just too late and found themselves unable to stand against the better quality legions of Constantinus. My take on the scenario is that unless Maxentius's gets very favourable dice, his only chance is for his second rate troops to run away faster than the front line routs. I'm currently testing out this theory in the reverse game and the jury is still out!
Thanks for the game Andy.

MIlviius Bridge
Maxentius (fogman) 88/96 vs Constantius (McHarg) 68/66
fogman 10.3
McHarg 9.2
The scenario description says Maxentius’ second line needs to run and save themselves (They have 10 free points to pick up across the river for encouragement)! That’s how the historical battle played out.

Londo (Allosaurus) 74/93 - McHarg (Constantius) 84/83
Londo 10.1
McHarg 8.0
After the Slitherine server problems, I had some PC issues of my own, so didn't do any turns for a while. But all remaining games are well underway now.

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
Two results to report:
Milvius Bridge
Maxentius (Edmund) 81/96 vs Constantinus (iandavidsmith) 68/66
Edmund 10.3
iandavidsmith 8.4
A close game where the result was in doubt to the end.
Maxentius's second line shamelessly ran for it while the cavalry on one flank held. The praetorians then held off Constantinus's victorious infantry just long enough for the exit point markers to be reached.
So a battle lost but a points win. Thanks for the game Ian.
Calleva Atrebatum
Constantinus (Edmund) 68/83 vs Allectus (fogman) 93/93
Edmund 10.0
fogman 8.2
Thanks to the 'dice' Allectus's barbarians seriously underperformed coming off second best to the farmhouses for long enough for the Romans to catch them in the open. Else where it was a hard fought battle with honours even. Thanks for the game and for designing it fogman - appreciated.

Londo (Constantius) 71/83 - Ian (Allectus) 97/93
Londo 10.4

I'm very glad to hear that we'll be continuing. There's still around 12-1300 years of warfare to go!

Re: LORDS OF HISTORY (the ultimate edition)
Round 17: FLEETING TRIUMPHS
Contrary to popular impression, the Milvian Bridge victory did not secure the empire for Constantine, he merely conquered Italy to add to his Gallic power base. The East was won by his ally Licinius. Constantine’s great triumph was the campaign of 324 when he defeated Licinius to reunite the empire. His dynasty however did not last beyond two generations, ending in 363 when his nephew Julian was killed in action against the Sasanids.
----------------------
HEBRUS RIVER 324
Licinius had retreated to the heights above the Hebrus river. Constantine’s infantry assault faltered but his cavalry surged forward to decide the day.
-----------------------
ARGENTORATUM 357
The Caesar Julian led his outnumbered army against the formidable host of the Alamanni and recorded a famous victory thanks to the steadiness of his infantry.

A result to report:
Margus River
Carinus (Edmund) 45/72 vs Diocletianus (Londo) 78/72
Edmund 10.8
Londo 6.3
Carinus's army seemed to fight better once he had died. Were they angry or relieved to lose him?
Thanks for the game Paul.
