Another close one. Sulla's left collapsed on cue, but elsewhere he very marginally got the best of it. On balance the Sullans sent too many units to support the left flank and nearly lost as a result.

Last Round : For Fame and Glory. The Republic’s power had been monopolized by strongmen since the days of Marius and Sulla who were supported by armies more loyal to their commanders than the Senate. In the 50’s Pompey, Crassus and Caesar, the Triumvirate, were the leading men of the day. Both Pompey and Crassus had come into prominence fighting on the side of Sulla during the civil wars. Caesar who was Marius’ nephew survived, thanks to his youth and political connections, then thrived after Sulla’s death. Of the three, Pompey was the most distinguished, having extended Rome’s dominion over the Levant in the 60’s. To equal their colleague’s standing, Caesar set his sight on Gaul and Crassus on Parthia. Those were wars of naked aggression, for personal fame and glory. They were to make Caesar and to destroy Crassus.

The Belgic tribes launched a surprise attack on the Roman legions at the Sabis River in northern Gaul as they were pitching camp. The Belgae were thrown back and crushed on their right and centre but on their left, the Nervii went close to overwhelming two Roman legions before those could be reinforced.

The Romans had fought and defeated cataphracts during the Armenian wars but they had never seen the combination of horse archers and cataphracts. It was to be a rude awakening. Note: the Roman cavalry with Publius is doomed and can inflict some damage on the Parthians while going down. The Roman square is fairly static (beware of the immobile units) but the detachments and remaining cavalry under Cassius give some it some maneuverability to go for the objective points. There are a lot of tactical options to consider.

Maybe some scenario rule I don't know about.

Thought I had 14 turns to finish off TDefender's Romans, it ended after my play on turn 13 with a marginal victory. Had it set up for one more point the next turn.
