extract scenario from savefile?

Can I edit the scenario used for a savegame in the scenario editor?

(Any saved game must contain all that's needed, or you couldn't do "reset scenario")

I created a scenario, started a game, accidentally overwrote the scenario file. Can I extract the starting position of a saved game into a pz2scn, so I can edit it in the editor?

As far as I remember, the save files themselves are very hard to edit. I asked this question at one time for some custom runs, but it is apparently very difficult to edit these saves (or core exports as well).

Thanks, but I wasn't looking to edit the save file directly or indirectly.

I'm asking if the scenario information ("reset scenario") can be extracted out of a save game and converted to a pz2scn file that in turn can be edited by the Scenario Editor?

Or are scenarios whose files you've mislaid lost even though they still kind of exist within a saved game?

Sorry, I misread your intention completely then! I can only comment that I was not able to get any information form save files whatsoever. They seem to be coded in a way that would require quite the exact knowledge.
