I've used Powerpont for battle reports and diagrams because it's easy to create blocks for BGs and terrain features and then move them around as the game progresses. On the iPad you could try Keynote which has a lot of similar functionality.

Take a look at Tim Porter's battle reports on Madaxeman.com (or drop him a PM). He has some program he's used for maps for a number of the reports.

There is Battle Chronicler, which is free software for the PC. I've downloaded it but I haven't used it myself yet.

You may be looking for software to draw a map of the battle field, but it seems to me that AutoCAD is best suited for this. After all, this is a time-tested program, and it works perfectly. Don't you think so? Andersen
