I suspect that the Wessex Wargames Society will be turning up mob-handed for this; put us down for three places (David Hewkin, Paul Marsh/Vespasian 28, and me) for sure. We might even have a fourth if our chairman is up for a post-Salute drive in the countryside.
If I may be permitted a personal observation (based on my one and only visit so far), I would suggest you recommend that everyone bring a packed lunch. We couldn't find the service station last year, and the village shop seemed to be firmly closed; but in any event, once you've packed your army away for the move to the next table and found out how everyone else did, 15 minutes really doesn't give enough time to get out and buy something - you need to have foraged successfully before you arrive.
Also, I'd be very grateful if someone could give me a tip on what to bring this year that won't leave me playing all three games against exactly the same army as my own.....

I think RtL that if you bring Royalists to an ECW themed comp that might be an issue "It's a Civil War Jim, but not as we know it!"
From my observation 15 mins doesn't give you time to eat let alone go shopping. I aim to bring an IV drip to provide nourishment after all we are there to game and I could do to lose a few pounds

Well, yes ok, Bones, but I was hoping I'd meet something different in at least one game. Incidentally, why does the Irish Confederate list not include the Louisiana Tiger Zouaves? Surely they were the most famous Irish Confederate unit of the entire Civil War? (I could use the version I painted up when I was at school, made from converted Airfix Commandos.)Vespasian28 wrote:I think RtL that if you bring Royalists to an ECW themed comp that might be an issue "It's a Civil War Jim, but not as we know it!"
It's certainly a rare event when I bring a packed lunch that can be eaten in under 15 minutes. From my observation 15 mins doesn't give you time to eat let alone go shopping. I aim to bring an IV drip to provide nourishment after all we are there to game and I could do to lose a few pounds

To make a change from the usual requests about army composition can we help Ronan out with suggestions for
a packed lunch that can be eaten in under 15 minutes.

One advantage of alternating turns is that you can eat While your opponent is moving.

Not sure about eaten in 15 minutes, but I find a pot noodle does wonders for lunchtime hunger pains...
One look at one and I think 'nah, not hungry!'

Excellent point, but at my age that option tends to be trumped by the need for a nap.kevinj wrote:One advantage of alternating turns is that you can eat While your opponent is moving.
Especially after a large packed lunch.

Nodding off and slumping over a Pike and shot army can be hazardous to your health with those nice, sharp brass wire pointy things
Re: Southern League FOG R 2016 at Oxford
Back in the 90s, we used to play above a doctors surgery in Lancaster.
A mate once sat on a 28mm Lanschneckt army. Which had sharpened pikes! Really sharpened!!!
The howl shook the building! Took a good ten minutes for someone to remove the army from his posterior.
The doctor took the poor unfortunate downstairs with the line 'tetanus jab for you, one more spike won't hurt!'

Clearly a lack of scouting cost him the initiative. Three important questions:
1) Were the figures ok?
2) Did you recruit the doctor?
3) Who lost the "saving throw" and had to suck out the poison?

It was the Doctor's club!
He did wash the figures, no figures were physically harmed, but they did receive counselling for many years!!!

Hi,
New to this but really interested in taking part. If there are spaces left how do I get involved/register?
Cheers

David,
I have put you on the list. If you PM with details of which club you belong and your full name that would be great.
