Change Settings = ctd

Post by willgamer »

Click on Change Settings then clicking either OK or X gives ctd.

Game itself seems to run fine.

Hi Will, what system are you running? It's a very unreliable bug so the more data we have the better!

I also experience the save settings crash on my Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 (Slitherine version). I also see two mouse pointers when I mouse over the settings screen. They move together but only the colored mouse works when clicking on items in the window. This happens with both a blue tooth mouse and a corded USB mouse. See screenshot. On my desktop machine, also running Windows 10, I also see two mouse pointers but in this case they are sitting on top of one another.

tharivo1, your running a preview build of a operating system, you need to update to a full released version, which yes maybe a older version than you have, but will be at least supported, your's may not be as it's not RC, it's a preview build.
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 64-bit (10.0, Build 14291) (14291.rs1_release.160314-2254)

9th Insider Preview build of Windows 10 released version dated 17th of March, the full release latest build of windows 10 is Version 1511, games not been and won't be tested on preview builds, so any error with it may or may not be supported or be fixable for a guess, i'm also on technet and have access to pre builds but don't use them to play or test games on as they can give false error's and not be fully supported.

my advice is install the game in full admin mode, disable any anti virus and install offline while doing it, checking permission are given by firewall in none steam version is used, and re try that, apart from that it could be anything tbh, drivers, o/s or a combo of new stuff added to the preview build.

the list of KNOWN ISSUES with the preview build your on is larger than the fixes it includes as well, and growing by the day, so what may not work today may work with the next set of updates for it, but that depends on how quick they release the fixes for the build your now on, if too many they will again release a newer preview build.

Tac2i, your issue maybe because of it's a tablet, i have no information either on tablet support, does the game work apart from the settings page issues you have had?

My Surface Pro 3 is a full Windows 10 PC in every respect. You can remove the keyboard and use as a touch device (tablet) but I doubt that has anything to do with this dual mouse pointer issue. I do not experience the dual mouse issue in the game, just on the separate settings panel.

Hi,
I bought the game earlier today. Slitherine version.
I can't go into the settings at all. I start with the desktop shortcut which loads a menu (play game, game settings, manual, etc).
When I click on settings I get a ctd.
Windows 8.1
laptop XMG P505 PRO.
1 x 39,6 cm (15.6") Full-HD (1920*1080) Matte IPS
1 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4096MB GDDR5
1 x Intel Core i7-4710HQ - 2,50 - 3,50GHz 6MB 47W
1 x 32GB (4x8192) SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM 1600MHz Crucial
1 x 512GB m.2 SSD Samsung XP941 (MZHPU512HCGL) - connected via PCI-Express x4
1 x 512GB m.2 SSD Crucial M550 (CT512M550SSD4)
1 x Intel Wireless-AC 3160 (incl. Bluetooth)
1 x Backlit Keyboard U.S. International
Plato was right.
Slitherine for 4X in space!

I have discovered the source of this issue on my Surface Pro3: DPI setting. By default my device runs at 150% DPI. If I switch that to 100% the dual mouse pointers run on top of each other and present no problem. Also, the settings window no longer crashes when I save my settings. At least in my case, it seems both issues where the result of the 150% DPI settings.
Tac2i wrote:I also experience the save settings crash on my Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 (Slitherine version). I also see two mouse pointers when I mouse over the settings screen. They move together but only the colored mouse works when clicking on items in the window. This happens with both a blue tooth mouse and a corded USB mouse. See screenshot. On my desktop machine, also running Windows 10, I also see two mouse pointers but in this case they are sitting on top of one another.

while going into settings does cause a CTD on some versions / O/S etc, the settings altered do still change, so matters little if it crashes or not, the settings are still working and saved even if it does crash on exit so still can be used, as soon as the developer can replicate it, it can and will be fixed, but first he needs to see it and have it happen on his development build to work out what's wrong and develop a patch /fix

I mis-spoke re the crashing setting panel. It still crashes on my Surface Pro 3 when saving settings even at 100 DPI. Correct, despite the crash the changed settings are saved.
