It's all right Nigel, we at the Wessex are perfectly capable of delivering below average scores without any further assistance :D :D

Two more Later Royalists added to the lists of armies. Wayne and Lynette from the Burton Club are both using Later Royalist. Just one list outstanding now.

13 Royalists! (Phooey)

There will be a lot of hot Royalist-on-Royalist action then!

A popular army because it is so much better than the NMA. Why did the Royalists lose the war exactly?

A) Which war? Didn't they lose all three? ;)
2) Their figurehead became a figure minus a head? Charles annoyed just about EVERYONE!
iii) The navy came out for the Commonwealth, therefore controlling the flow of powder to the Royalists.
3.5) No one could take Wupert sewiouswy...
Three point six) money
iii 3/4) London, Bristol, Birmingham all favoured parliament, three biggest cities in England.
Four) The cavaliers couldn't spend more than a week in the field without their lace collars needing restartching
5) Scotland betrayed Charles and handed him over for a tidy sum of cash!!

Final list in and its another!!!!!

Parliamentarian - New Model Army.

I have done the draw and all parliamentarians and Scot Covenanters will play Royalist armies in the first round. After that it is down to the dice.

Thanks mad lemmey, it was a rhetorical question but nicely summarised.

Interesting point though that wargaming abounds with armies that either do better or worse than their historical selves. Trouble with wargaming tabletop battles is that social, political, economic and demographic facors don't come into play. Just as well really, it's a game :D

...has anyone got any idea why I find myself furiously painting and basing extra figures for this weekend just to be able to field a more coherently painted, and more overtly "Scottish" army, despite having far too many generic ECW Pike & Shotte already ...?

They will look better on the pictures to your battle reports. Also you can make reference to their new uniforms you as their commander purchased for them before they get covered in their own blood.

Tim

'has anyone got any idea why I find myself furiously painting and basing extra figures...'?

Because you are a wargamer and that is what we do. Any excuse to get/buy/paint/base extra toys when we already have too many...

Good to see I set low standards and fail to rise to meet them :)

I know there's a good (by which I actually mean very (VERY) bad) reason that nobody else brought NMA, but it was either that or Irish Confederates to ensure I didn't end up doing what I did last year and playing all three games against exactly the same army that I'd brought. And the Irish Confederates are so pants they belong in Moss Bros.

Me and my amazing wonder-dice will see you all on Sunday.
But I had so much fun with them last time :)

Just to let you know, David Hewkin won't be playing tomorrow, due to family issues. If you have a reserve, and wish to deploy them, please feel free.

Thanks to Bob and co for the effort organising and everyone else for an enjoyable days gaming. I was going to say excellent days gaming and then I remembered my dice, especially whenever they had to interact with my dragoons :(

Thanks to my opponents, Andy, Paul and Pual, three good games, I wasn't broken at all, but neither did I manage any wins. I did improve vs Andy K, last year was 0-25, this year was 6-14! I'm improving, honest! :D
Second from last, but the family loved the die!
Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation, another corker. See you at Campaign or later!
