Iwo Jima (1945 - free deploy)
by Erik Nygaard
Description: The goal of Operation Detachment was to capture the two working airfields and an additional under construction to provide a staging area for attacks on the Japanese main islands. After the heavy losses incurred in the battle, the strategic value of the island became controversial as it was useless both to the US Army as a staging base and the US Navy as a fleet base.
