you need to get the map to recompile - you will have old map .dat files on your machine somewhere that the game is picking up - you need to search your machine and delete all the map .dat files (there will be one for each zoom level)

once they are deleted the game will recompile the maps at start up

No one knows how to do the range of attack 2 for artillery, tank and battleship?

As I will say again ground and naval units have an attack range of one except for air units. The scale is too great for artillery ground unit to attack at 100km range (2 hexes) except for

2 or 3 large rail guns that Germany had which is difficult to simulate in a strategic scale game. Air craft became the new long range artillery in ww2. That is what TAC's

are for.

Hi,
I tried to install ceaw 4.0 on my PC and deleted as you said the 3 files. When I launch the game, it is 4.0 (OK) but I didn't have the icon of MOT and CAV on the map !

Could you help me ?

Yes, thanks for your answer, but I have not yet been told how you can change those units to rank 2, for my new miniMod graphic for this game.

I modified the
Unit.txt and general.txt but I still do not make it work, and I'm interested that works to 2 hexagons.

With the commander napoleon war me works well rank 2, but not with the Commander - Europe at War hexagons

I do know the hex scale for CNAW is the same as CEAW. I believe designer changed the code for TAC' aircraft to be the artillery units in Commander Napoleon at War.

That is why I did not like the game because artillery had a fantasy distance in 1812 of 100km range for cannon when they did not.

5. Go into the following folders and remove map25_nogrid.dat, map50_nogrid.dat, map100_nogrid.dat .../image/background and .../image/backgroundnames
By removing the *.dat files you will force the game to recompile the maptiles using the new map files map25_nogrid.png, map50_nogrid.png and map100_nogrid.png

I don't seem to have any .dat files in those locations, only .png?

Seems to work though.

I think the code for ground and naval attack assumes a range of just 1. That means it finds units adjacent to the attacking units. Air units use a different attack mechanism. CV's use air attack when attacking. For air units the range to other units is set to more than 1.

Changing this means quite extensive coding with big risks of bugs appearing. Not sure it's worth it. Especially since the hex size is so big that neither naval nor ground units could attack outside the adjacent hex. Artillery shells could be fired some kilometers from the target. Since artillery units would be too vulnerable alone against enemy counter attacks these units are integrated into the other ground units. That is why you have artillery as a research area for corps units.

We are playing with corps sized units and artillery were support units inside a bigger unit like division or corps. With tech in GS you get higher shock attack simulating better artillery. Russia can have up to 5 shock armies from October 1941. These have better shock attack due to having more artillery attached to the unit.

For a tactical game it would be nice to have a range of more than 1 for naval and ground units.

If you want artillery units in GS then it would be best to keep the range 1, but let them get better ground defense so they can withstand counter attacks. Then they become more like shock armies.

With Strategic Command WWII War in Europe you can now use the artillery correctly

Guys,

I thought I'd give your version 4 a try after all this time. I'm using a Windows 10 laptop. I install CEaW (MH Gold version). But I get the brief dos window of doom again and it won't run. How do I fix that?

Windows 10 is fine for version 4 so how did you install v4?

manually copied each file - you can't do folders

if you did that I would start form scratch, delete everything and install CEAW, check that it works, then add the 4 files

okay...main game works...

now...there was a patch to it...anyone know the number/version?...I might have it...I have:

ceaw_gold_setup...that was the main game

ceaw_gold_1.12.1...is this the patch?

I did copy the folders over...that makes a difference?

can I highlight all the files in one folder and copy/paste into the original game folder?

okay...gonna give it a try...the original game w the patch works...resolution is a bit wonky with it not fitting full screen, but will see...
