historical German insignia
Could I ask for links to posts with original German flags and insignia?
I found a thread created by @Wargamer, but I would like to compare his works with other mods and choose the best one. Thanks

I can also make a set of those. I always wanted to, just no time.
I prefer white for Kriegsmarine... it is ok for you?

Re: historical German insignia
I would love to see your proposals, but I mean signage for land forces
The point is that if 2 runes "sig" for Waffen SS is ok for me, I'm not convinced by the swastika (hakenkreuz) for the Wehrmacht, because it wasn't the German equipment label
I would prefer the so-called "Greek cross", which was painted on German tanks and aircraft
That is basically what the devs propose but I'm looking for something better made...

Kriegsmarine should have a specific white UI Flag :Admiral_Horthy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 9:59 pm I can also make a set of those. I always wanted to, just no time.

Re: historical German insignia
That's the one I use, too. But I'm always open to new suggestions.
Re: historical German insignia
I think it would be best if the "Greek cross" (smaller than the developers cross, on a black background, without a red color) would be used as a sign of the Wehrmacht units, while the hakenkreutz (as it is now) would remain as a marking of points on the map
I noticed that there is no animation of the swastika flag in this "Wargamer's mod"

Re: historical German insignia
It’s funny you guys mention my mod because I’m in the process of updating it. In the last version I think I made the flags a little too brownish plus I found a better shading effect that makes them look identical to the original flags.
You can go either way but I think using a simple Wehrmacht emblem is better for display reasons.
Here’s some test emblems I was working.
The first is a larger Wehrmacht emblem and the second would probably work better with a WWI mod if anybody ever does one.
The best way to go is simple shapes and flag colors hence the reason the original artist designed the emblems in the way he did.
OoB uses a similar theme as Panzer Corps in that the units use the national flag as the emblem. In other wargames I’ve played you tend to see the national flag for all countries and then the military emblem used for all the units. One idea would be to change all the emblems to military, that way everything is consistent but it would take a lot of work and time.
Historically the Wehrmacht used a mixture of both the Balkenkreuz (Beam Cross) and the swastika, officially they adopted nazi symbols in 1934, so you had the breast eagles worn on all wehrmacht uniforms and the eagle with swastika on the helmets and of course the Luftwaffe had both the wehrmacht emblem along with swastika.kondi754 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 11:09 pm I would love to see your proposals, but I mean signage for land forces

One of the problems with the emblems is they lose a lot of detail and become somewhat blurry because of the way the game engine downscales them, in my mod I found it was almost impossible to get the swastika to look right, I mean it’s okay but it still loses a lot of detail and becomes blurry against the white. It probably also depends on the resolution your running the game. Putting a small Wehrmacht emblem against a black background would cause it to blend in too much and be too hard to see.kondi754 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 12:38 pm I think it would be best if the "Greek cross" (smaller than the developers cross, on a black background, without a red color) would be used as a sign of the Wehrmacht units, while the hakenkreutz (as it is now) would remain as a marking of points on the map

Re: historical German insignia
I had in mind something like below
Of course I know it is crooked, but it's only about the pattern

Re: historical German insignia
Well this work? It's not as bad as I thought it would be, maybe use this for the Wehrmacht and the vanilla one for the Kriegsmarine, I don't know just thinking of different ideas. I wish the emblems were smaller to begin with because they wouldn't blur so much in the game. The actual size outside the game is 128x128 and I don't think they actually have to be that big since the game downscales them so small anyway.

Here's the emblem in case anyone wants it.
Re: historical German insignia
Thank you very much, I didn't dare ask you to do it for me, but if you have already done so, thank you so muchWargamer74 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 7:50 am Here's the emblem in case anyone wants it.
emblem_germany.zip
If it would be possible to change the panels of core units from yellow to black (just like aux units) it would be perfect (but it's great anyway )

I've made some modifications, maybe it's not perfectly matched but I'm very happy with the effect.

Re: historical German insignia
Did you recolor the unitplate.tga? That's what I did
You can make the color anything you want other than gold or black. It doesn't go in the emblems folder it needs to be place in the UI folder.
Oh and by the way thanks for the skins, I downloaded some of them a few months ago, nice work

I think I'll start a new thread about skins this weekend
This will be "German GC '39 -45 historical skins pack"
I'll create and make new skins one after another for subsequent Wehrmacht campaigns.
I would like to celebrate the completion of the BK-PK-ES trilogy by the developers in this way.
(I'll also share my favorite, most closely guarded skins , among others: "Tiger zimmerit'44" and "Leibstandarte in Normandy'44" )
Re: historical German insignia
One more thing, I've tried to recolor the unitplate.tga but found this problem with keeping shapes (below)
Any advice? (I'm not good at using graphics programs, so I am asking for a simple solution... )

Re: historical German insignia
Yeah, the simplest of solutions. Try this:
I've been just using the wrong paint software for TGA picture files, it seems. Terminator posted a good one here

Re: historical German insignia
Do not use Paint (Windows). Paint does not manage transparency. If you save a picture with Paint, you lose the transparency.
You can use for transparency (freeware) :
- Paint.net (easier)
- Gimp (more difficult)

Re: historical German insignia
@Terminator, Gabe
Thank you very much, of course, I used Paint...
one more thing, how to do it to change the color for only one faction?
It's much better now
