Re: Tournament Diary and News . . .
The updated tournament records are now available in the "stickies" section. There are quite a few Season 4 entries in the new lists.

Re: Tournament Diary and News . . .
Everything is done now apart from a few Themed Event charts and an updated Medals Table (from Anders) to be put in the archive thread. Thanks very much for the kind comments and I'll see you all for Season 5 preparations in about a month's time.

Details of the Themed Event in Season 5 are now confirmed!
I have decided to use again the concept behind the Themed Event that we had in Season 2 of the old FOG1DL. I have had to make some changes as the armies have not been exactly reproduced from FOG1 to FOG2 and a couple of the scenarios used in the KO stage then are not available now.
Firstly the four qualifying groups . . .
Group 1 "Peloponnesian War" (431-404 BC)
1. Spartan 461-281 BC
2. Greek 460-281 BC
3. Achaemenid Persian 419-329 BC
4. Syracusan 412-281 BC
Group 2 "The Wars of Alexander" (334-323 BC)
1. Indian 500 BC-319 AD
2. Macedonian 355-329 BC
3. Achaemenid Persians 419-329 BC
4. Thracian 350-251 BC
Group 3 "The Wars of Pyrrhus" (280-272 BC)
1. Roman 280-220 BC
2. Macedonian 320-261 BC
3. Pyrrhus 280-272 BC
4. Carthaginian 280-263 BC
Group 4 "Great Balkan Migration" (from 279 BC)
1. Galatians 280-63 BC
2. Macedonians 320-261 BC
3. Greeks 280-228 BC
4. Thracians 350-251 BC
For the knock-out stage, where paired games are used, we will be using 3 official scenarios that I have checked for reasonable balance . . .
Quarter-finals - Raphia 217 BC
Semi-finals - Pydna 168 BC
Final - Phillippi 42 BC
So I think this will give us a good old romp around the ancient world. Any comments are most welcome.

Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
Really nice selection and I will certainly be giving the themed event a go this time as I like the armies involved (though the poor old Thracians are likely to have a very hard time !)

Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
The way I am going to do this is to have a completely unseeded draw of the 16 players to get the 4 qualifying groups of 4 players. Then I will put each group of 4 players in order (1-2-3-4) by using the latest FOG2DL ratings. The weakest player according to the list will then get the strongest army (army number 1 in the list above). So the Thracians will be used by the strongest player in the group. The record of the Thracians in the FOG2DL is OK, but only 2 players have used them.
If we are able to run 2 pools of 12 (with 3 players in each of the 4 qualifying groups) rather than just 1 pool of 16 players, then the number 4 armies from the list above will drop out and players will play paired games in the qualifying groups as well.
Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
Eminently sensible.

That looks awesome. Definitely want to get signed up for that. Good army diversity in the groups. Kind of want to suggest a War of the Diadochi themed group with the Antigonids, Lysimachids, Ptolemaics, and Seleucids, but I realize that might be a bit......monochromatic and pike heavy in comparison.

If memory serves that was what was done in the 1st season themed event.Geffalrus wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 6:53 pmThat looks awesome. Definitely want to get signed up for that. Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
It would be interesting to see an event based around Ancient Britain. There are a lot of army types in that area not so often used and it would provide some interesting challenges, especially if an invading Roman army was thrown into the mix!

Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
I have had a look but I cannot see that there would be enough armies or scenarios for an "Ancient Britain" theme.
Armies
Ancient British 60 BC - 80 AD
Caledonian 50-225 BC
Roman 24 BC - 196 AD
Scots-Irish 50 BC - 476 AD
Scenarios
Watling Street 61 AD
Really I would need at least one more army for the group stage because I think the Roman army might be too strong for, say, the Caledonians. So really the Romans would work best in the KO stage where we use paired games. But there is only one scenario available as far as I can see. We would need 2 more scenarios to cover the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
Have I missed anything? If not the only possibility is to add the Gauls, maybe theming it as "The Roman Conquest of Gaul and Britain". This would give us . . .
Armies
Ancient British 60 BC - 80 AD
Caledonian 50-225 BC
Gallics 100-50 BC
Scots-Irish 50 BC - 476 AD
Scenarios
Bibracte 58 BC
Alesia 52 BC
Watling Street 61 AD
Would that work for Season 6? I also plan to use jomni's Silk Road mod for one Themed Event and I am also writing a new group of scenarios now that might be used one day as well.

That's a neat idea. If you're going to do the conquest of Gaul, don't forget to include the Germans.

Re: Provisional outline for the Themed Event in Season 5
Once the timeline expands up to the 11th century a Britain themed event could be interesting. Starting with the Ancient Brits, Romans, Caledonians, Scots-Irish then moving on through Romano Brits, Saxons, Vikings and finally Normans.

Yes, that would definitely work for a Themed Event in the future.

Re: Dates for Season 5 of the FOG2DL . . .
What time period and Armies are to be included? Thanks! Okie

Re: Dates for Season 5 of the FOG2DL . . .
I am just repeating this message as recruitment will open in just 10 days time . . .
If those of you who are also playing in Slitherine's automated "Indian Spring" tournament could mention the next season of the FOG2DL to players who have not entered it before, then that would be very much appreciated.
