Div B

devoncop (Dailami) beat Youngr (Sassanid Persians) 60% to 31%.

The hilly rocky desert map with a stream through the middle did the Persian Jumbo's no favours at all.

Thanks to Youngr for a great battle against the odds !

Division B for Brave

Barrold713 and my rich Corinthian leather defeats General Shapur's Carthaginians 45-19

I will take the win, but if it had lasted another turn or so the score would have turned against me. Thanks for the match

Division B

sunnyboy (Byzantine 740-903AD) beat devoncop (Dailami 928-1055 AD & Khorasanian 821-1003 AD Allies) 64-46

The fortunes of both sides waxed and waned over the course of the battle; the advantage early was with the Dailami who won the cavalry fight. However, the Byzantine skoutatoi crushed their opponents in the centre of the field and began plodding across the map trying to catch their nimbler opponents. Fortuitously on turn 24, the sole remaining unit of Tagmata lancers was able flank and rout a unit of Ghilman and a unit of light cavalry reaching the magical 60% at the death.

Thanks for an enjoyable game!

The Allies poll is now closed . . . 21-7 in favour of their introduction next season

Post by stockwellpete »

This is a no-brainer as far as I am concerned. The Allies feature is an excellent addition to FOG2 and I would recommend that we roll it out right across the tournament from Season 6. This season it is just being trialled in Early Middle Ages. The poll will run for 2 weeks and players may change their vote if they wish to.

I like the option, even if there will be times when I will choose not to have allies for various reasons.

Edit: I will, of course, be lobbying for the Antigonids to get some Greek allies.

The one problem I see with the feature is that it can make armies less unique. For example the Viking army tends to be based on heavy infantry shieldwalls. Pick French allies, however, and you have effective heavy infantry and an effective heavy cavalry wing. Is increasing this level of army flexibility desirable? I'm not sure, it depends on what people are looking for in league play...
