Re: Erik's campaigns
I would add one more factor in Eric's defense - he ain't getting $$$$
Re: Erik's campaigns
A number of my campaigns are ports/enhancements of the original PzC campaigns.
One thing that stays the same (at least initially) is the number of units on both sides.
So the difficulty would appear to be the same. But it is not.
It is harder to achieve a victory in an OOB scenario, the game mechanics are simply more intricate.
I think the old PzC relied more on number of AI units to achieve a balance, and the OOB ports suffer a bit from that.
There is surprisingly little scripting in the PzC stuff.
As Bru said, I rely on player feedback to adjust the play balance. More constructive feedback is always a good thing.
I'll even update really old scenarios is someone gives some detailed feedback.
But also, I am not designing these scenarios/campaigns for the OOB-beginner. I want them to be a challenge for the experienced player.
I don't like the way difficulty levels are handled in OOB either, so I usually stay on medium diff.

Re: Erik's campaigns
Unnskyld, Erik... I don't wish to seem ungrateful for all of your dedicated, uncompensated work... I've just had a fair few incidents where I've banged my head against a wall in some of your mods but didn't feel qualified to criticise because I wasn't sure if it was just me being unskilled and I didn't feel that I had a right to complain about difficulty when I haven't beaten every official campaign from top to tip.
Re: Erik's campaigns
No problem. We've all been frustrated on the battlefield.
Just give me enough feedback details to be able to fix/change stuff that is problematic.

US Corps 1943-44 (V1): Anzio
This FW190 seemed to be unmoved that I was invading his airspace, quit literally Though the last thing I want in this scenario is another Luftwaffe pilot roaming the skies, this one never did move/engage even after attacking him.
Some comments on my experience with this scenario. The previous scenarios in this campaign have shown my amphibious landing strategy sorely lacking, so keep that in mind. I always play at medium level (default) and don't mind a 50/50 chance of winning/losing on the last turn. This one was a little rough for me. I achieved the primary objectives, but had to extend by 4 extra turns, to a total length of 20. I had 16 rp at the end, no elite replacements and no upgrades. Plain and simple, I was pinned on the beachhead too long.
This one was a little too strong for my average skills, but I enjoyed the challenge.
As always, thanks for the hard work Erik

US Navy Campaign 3.1
Hi Erik,
I played Midway twice.
In my first game I launch all my Avengers and Dauntlesses in one massive strike and manage to sink 3 Japanese carriers. At the end of the round the scenario immediately ends with a "Minor Victory". I did not lose any carriers or any large numbers of ships or aircraft. I did not get the chance to avert the invasion of Midway as the game ended. The game proceeds to Guadalcanal.
In my second game, with some cheating with unlimited cash, I first annihilate the Japanese airforce. Next I leave their carriers alone because all the Japanese battleships, cruisers, destroyers and transports are nearing Midway. A massive sea and air-to-sea battle starts and I manage with my unlimited cash to sink all the transports and many ships. I receive twice the message that the Japanese start retreating: first because of shortage of transports and second because of battleship losses.
Now I consider it time to go after the Japanese carriers and oilers befor they escape. First I sink 2 carriers, then all 8 required oilers and next the 3rd carrier. Again the scenario ends with a "Minor Victory". The game proceeds to Guadalcanal.
Remarks:
- Minor Victory? I completed all primary and secondary goals my the second game.
- Should the game end immediately after sinking of three Japanese carriers as the Japanese still have all their other ships.
- Without the cash cheating this scenario, again, would be very difficult. I considered Coal Sea already very difficult, Midway seems impossible without unlimited cash to immediately resuscitate downed aircraft and sunk ships.
Thanks!

US Corps 43-44
Started from the beginning after your last update. I´m at mission 6 (Messina) after again taking the southern path in mission 5 (as this gives a massive RP boost and you get nothing from the northern path).
Mission 6 has way to many air CP now (32!). No more than 23 should be allowed for a balanced mission. Even that might be a bit high compared to the enemy air level.
I´m feeling comfortable with my RP level, but it might be leaning toward the high/easy side after coming from the southern path in mission 5. The coming landing mission - which was hard the first time around - will tell.
UPDATE!
Mission 6 also now has too many turns. 28 and I finished without any haste in 17. I also finished mission 5 in about the same number of turns and this is really stacking up RP´s and upsetting the balance. Last to missions was easy and I have more than 1300 after mission 6.

I needed the 1300 for mission 7 and 8, so the balance is ok.

Re: Erik's campaigns
Order of Battle moves East on August 8th!
Road to Moscow 1.0
Road to Moscow 1.0
This short, but somewhat massive campaign is added to my list.
It deals with Armee Gruppe Mitte (Guderian) and the drive to capture Moscow before Christmas.
This is a divisional unit campaign with regimental artillery groups and panzer regiments.
The maps are big for those sweeping maneuvers and there is of course a fair amount of units on both sides.
The Soviet units start with no experience to simulate the initial surprise attack. Later they gain some and specialisations and commanders are added for the counter-attack.

US Corps 1943-44 (V1.2) : San Fratello
Erik,
I took the north approach through San Fratello. Played much better this time around. The Germans gave up rather quickly on this on though, on turn 11. I had not captured San Fratello or finished off the other Panzer, though his end was near since he was isolated out of supply . Interestingly enough, I got the 5 spec points even though the secondary objective was not finished yet. Just wanted to pass this on.
I started Messina with 1300 rp and used all but 150 by the end, with no experienced replacements. So it seems pretty fair so far.
Keep up the good work!

If you have not captured the Primary VP "San Fratello" how is it possible to validate the Primary Objective "Capture all 3 objectives"Dwightd wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 8:10 pm US Corps 1943-44 (V1.2) : San Fratello

Dear Erik,
Road to Moscow gets stuck on the Mac after the first scenario...any advice?

You mean the second scenario does not load?warbear2017 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 1:54 pm Dear Erik,

Note that the scenario maps are large and will take some time to load, depending of the specs of your Mac.
Also there are a lot of Soviet units, so the AI may take some time doing its turn.
I run OOB on a PC (I have no Mac) and the scenario loaded normally (similar to the others in the campaign).

Re: Erik's campaigns
Well Erik, thanks for the quick response, I will give it another try. Yesterday I kept the scenario loading three times over 25 minutes....maybe I clean my hard drive a bit before
Re: Erik's campaigns
It is a bit odd that you should have problems with the second scenario and not the first one.
All scenarios in the campaign are about the same scope, map size and number of units.
