Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
That may be so... But I wouldn't be surprised at all if Lysimachus is accused in a turn or two of not trading the land he was supposed to, leading to a large scale invasion!
Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
Better stock up on these tincopper hats guys, evil Macedon is gonna get us all!
Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
Not sure why Macedonians would use such soft metal amalgamates as helmets, but here in the Celtic lands, we'd rather ride naked into battle than wear such silly protection.
Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
Everybody knows that true warriors keep their helmets on even if the rest of their clothes are just panties, just watch 300!

Dont get lost in foreign lands when you start an invasion.
Use maps. Maps drawn on papyrus.
We offer large papyrus for strategic maps, small papyrus for tactical handouts to your subcommanders.
Offer of the week: Buy papyrus, get an elephant on top.
Special offer of the week for Carthage: Buy elephants, get papyrus on top.

Any chance you can delete Roman lands from your strategic maps ? This may reduce the number of unwelcome tourists blighting our southern beaches.......RufusTFirefly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 5:44 pm Dont get lost in foreign lands when you start an invasion.

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
The declaration of war by the Antigonids on the Romans is a clarion call for Carthage that cannot be ignored. It is the canary in the coal mine gasping for air. For the Antigonids to have the entire Levant, half of Greece, Cyprus, Rhodes and the Greek islands as well is bad enough that we should have all feared that we were on the brink of defeat. To add all the wealth and culture and men of Italy as well is nothing short of a leap across the precipice. If any nation should imagine that there is still time to face the threat then they have created for themselves a most fanciful illusion. If any nation should think that Rome can stand alone against all the resources that we have let the Antigonids acquire as we twiddled our thumbs, hoped for the best and focused on our individual minor affairs, than we are not only deluded but downright stupid.
All of us, are culpable for the state of affairs that we find ourselves in. Through cowardice and delusional, subservient self-interest, we have picked at the scraps and let the Antigonids run amok. We dared not reach for any prize lest the lion turns it's eye towards us. We dared not claim any right that was already ours because we lacked faith in ourselves and those around us. We imagined ourselves, all of us, as scavengers, and in turn, we became such.
To this Carthage evokes the words of wiser men; Caesar would be no lion if the Romans were not hinds.
We will no longer kowtow to the mighty to save our own necks, stumbling towards defeat, happy only to hold on to whatever territory we are allowed to have, regardless of rights or customs, or the wishes of our people. We will not watch our neighbours be swallowed one by one, the Carthaginians are warriors.
Even with our might it is unlikely to be enough. We will almost certainly lose. Carthage will not deign to beg for assistance because one asks for mercy from others, but courage must be asked by each of oneself. So each must examine their own character and decide whether they seek survival at the cost of inexorable defeat, or glory in both this world and the next.

Re: Field of Diplomacy - Calling Players for an MP game
The gods have smiled upon us, in this the first year of the Great War, which will decide the fate of the world. Our hearts sank at the news that the Macedonians had joined their allies in the war. But fortune stood with the brave Romans, who fought back the main Antigonid force at Campania. Well over 50 formations of infantry and cavalry engaged in an epic struggle. The fighting was bloody, but the Romans held the day, the bruised Antigonids retreating to their occupied foreign lands, camping among a populace that hates them. The Romans did not rest however, and marched back north and annihilated the Celticii horde to secure its northern border, eliminating them as a threat and finalising peace with all the other minor tribes of Italy. Meanwhile the Carthaginian fleet arrived unannounced along the coast of Italy, destroying almost 24 Antigonid ships, for a loss of only 7 ships mostly light and a few medium warships. The final losses:
Antigonids:
6 Heavy Warships
9 Warships
9 Light Warships
Carthage:
3 Warships
4 Light Warships
God smiles upon our struggle, but surely the dark gods of the Antigonids will soon cast their eye upon the conflict. We have no illusions of ultimate victory, fighting alone against two powers far larger and more numerous than us, but we fight on for glory if not victory.

Well done, my Carthaginian and Roman friends!
The Antigonids will be defeated! They will be stopped! And there will be repercussions for them! This blatant disregard of the peace in the Apennine peninsula that has reigned since Roman unification will be answered with an equivalent punishment in due time.
We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in Rome, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength, we shall defend our lands, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this land or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the Carthaginian Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of us.
