Was doing good... UNTIL CRETE (Allied Corps)

Post by cyphercat »

I think I've loaded this mission and attempted it at least 25 times. I can't seem to get past turn 8.
It seems like the paratroopers reduce my forces severely. Then I don't really have any time to get proper reinforcements, at which point the planes come in and do a lot of damage.
Maybe someone (or two or three) could offer a little assistance in getting through this mission. The game was a blast until I got here. I thought I had a handle on it.
But it's no big deal, I'm probably just overlooking some important things about wargames or something.

On another forum someone asked me to post my core force, I thought it might help to do the same here:
2 x British Infantry
3 x British Engineer
2 x Matilda II
2 x Valentine
3 x 6 inch 26 cwt
2 x Hurricane Mk II

Allied Corps or GC41 ?
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

The key thing is to hold the airfields so concentrate on defensive positions centred on one or more guns. Keep the guns topped up with ammo so you can keep providing defensive fire as you can take a lot of attacks each turn and take heavy casualties if your artillery runs out of ammo. Resist the urge to attack unless you are sure you won't get cut off and surrounded. As for the war in the air, I'd keep any fighters very close to the AA to the north west of the island, and focus on defending ground units and only risk attacks for finishing off damaged unescorted bombers. There's probably a few details I've missed out but I haven't played this scenario for a while.

This isn't very exciting, but since you are outnumbered by a more experienced enemy, and have to defend positions, there don't appear to be a lot of options. I'd be interested to see what other people do.

I believe the is from before I started doing mods, so it should [re]play.
