How to conduct the perfect amphibious invasion?

I totally screwed one up today. Probable mistakes:

* A beach too far.

* Neglecting the impact of out of supply.

* Not landing on a beach that I would own at the end of the turn.

But my experience is limited compared to many of you who have been playing, since release non-stop (or are beta members). Tips would be appreciated.

An amphibious assault requires what every battle does, a great recon.

Send a naval force ahead to view the target region.

What is the defense force, garrison, defensiveness, frontage, city walls, food stores, etc., in the target region?

Assemble a force to take the region in one turn. If this is not possible, then assault where you can do this.

Plan the route so that your force moves from a supplied land or sea region to the target in one turn.

Gain and maintain Sea Control of the route. So, defeat and destroy any naval threat before you invade.

Take the target and establish a supplied base. Switch as much of the population as needed to keep your forces supplied.

Expand rapidly from the initial region. Tempo is a force multiplier.

Do you mean just assigning population to food production or is this an actual thing that Roman (Imperial) Legions can do as a command or regional decision?

Assign pop to food production.

Another tip is to have an important fleet in the coastal region, it can resupply landed units.
