This phenomena happens to me quite often. When I'm winning a game convincingly players go AWOL for a couple of days and when they return they typically fare better than they had been. I don't think they are cheating by reloading the game multiple times. Alternatives are that they have either got depressed by losing and have temporarily lost the desire to play or there is method in their madness. Personally I think it comes back to statistical clumping and correctly or incorrectly they wait until their run of bad die will hopefully change.76mm wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 1:34 pm
For instance, right now I'm in what might be the final turn of a hard-fought MP game in which I'm winning 56-64. My opponent had been consistently returning 1-2 turns a day until now, when it's been three days since I submitted my last turn. Is he busy? Is he reloading the turn dozens of times to see if he can get enough rallies to survive another turn? This thread has me wondering...

Agree. Has Slitherine posted anything about this elsewhere, more centrally, in the FoG2 forum and not only in the DL sub-forum? If not, they should.

gamercb (Carthaginian 235-146 BC with Syracusan 280-211 BC allies) defeats Badger73 (Roman 105-25 BC with Armenian 331 BC–252 AD allies) 60-57
As the score shows, it was a close game with both flanks collapsing and a race to bring vicorious troops to the centre to with the battle. Thanks to Badger73 for a very enjoyable battle.

Division D
Aetius39 (Babylonian) defeats bomber23 (Assyrian) 42-8
The Babylonians took a hill on this right and it was contested by the Assyrians. While this was happening the center traded arrows and eventually lines clashed there, while the left had cavalry staring each other down and trading some arrow fire. The Assyrians were slowly more troops than their enemy; the final blow came when some Babylonian cavalry hit the Assyrian guard from behind. Thanks for playing bomber it was fun!

Re: Any questions . . .
Do we always post as:
hidde (Romans) beat stockwellpete (Carthaginians)
even if hidde didn't actually rout stockwellpete but "only" had inflicted a higher percentage during the full 24 turns, say 50 - 30, and you then calculate the scores based on that?

This in the vast majority of cases, IMO. I have seen the pattern many times over the years and have felt it myself too often.Alternatives are that they have either got depressed by losing and have temporarily lost the desire to play
Re: FOG2DL given clean bill of health by Slitherine review . . .
I've not seen anything on the main forum. I happened to wander over to this subforum this morning, when I found this thread.kronenblatt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 4:21 pm Agree. Also, I have a strange, half-remembered recollection of receiving some kind of notice that my opponent had reloaded his turn multiple times during a fairly recent game (a few weeks ago?). After reading this thread, I'm wondering if I imagined this message or am confusing it somehow? If this occurred at all, I don't remember anything about the game and certainly didn't think at the time "Aha, my opponent must be cheating!".

No, I would prefer it if players used their real names. And if the match was a draw then post it as a draw. Amazing system I have developed here really.kronenblatt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 5:28 pm Do we always post as:

Division C
SLancaster (Roman 197-284 AD) and SawyerK (Byzantine 551-578 AD) fought to a 36 to 8 final score (SLancaster ahead) with all turns expired.
The battle took place on a map dominated by mountains and forests (at least 2/3 of the map) and the Byzantines had a number of cavalry units trapped in the limited open space in the first third of the game after which they merely tried to stay alive. It was a very frustrating game for the Romans and not a particularly fun one for the Byzantines giving the lack of space.

Division D for Decisive!
Barrold713 (Greeks) defeats Aetius39 (Lydians) 46-13
Winning against a clearly skilled opponent makes this game rewarding. My simple plan was to harass the cavalry and block with raw hoplites and punch with the tougher armoured hoplites. The veteran units are always key and my stronger units let a cavalry to get around the end to be disruptive even after being pelted. GG A39
