There Can Be Only One II! - Tournament Completed!
3 men. 1 goal. They all have the will, the desire, the ambition. But, as everyone knows, there can be only one...
I would like to start a 2nd "There Can Be Only One" tournament. It will feature the battles of members of the 1st Triumvirate (Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus). I am envisioning 6 battles:
1. Pompey's subjugation of the East - 3rd Mithridatic War
Armies: Rome 105-25 BC w/ Bithynian 297-74 BC allies vs Pontic 84-47 w/ Armenian (Tigranes) 83-69 allies
2. Crassus' putting down the 3rd Servile War (defeating Spartacus)
Armies: Rome 105-25 BC vs Slave Revolt 73-71
3. Caesar's Gallic war - Battle of Alesia
Armies: Roman 105-25 BC vs. Gallic 100-50 BC
4. Crassus' invasion of Parthia - Carrhae
Armies: Roman 105-25 BC vs. Parthian 250 BC-225 AD
5. Caesar helping Cleopatra to the Egyptian throne - Battle of the Nile
Armies: Roman 105-25 BC vs. Ptolemaic 166-56 BC
***I am aware that there is a Ptolemaic 55-30 BC army, but I think this is better to use an all-Egyptian army against the Romans.
6. Civil War - Battle of Pharsalus
Armies: Roman 105-25 BC vs. Roman 105-25 BC
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
*****Format
I envision a similar format like the first TCBOO tournament: 2 generals (players) working together until the last battle, where finally they have to fight each other for the ultimate prize - The Roman Empire!
Each team of 2 people play a mirror game against another team, BUT each person only plays 1 of the mirror games.
Example: In the first battle "Rome vs. Gaul" Team 1 has players A and B; Team 2 has players C and D. There is 1 mirror match (2 games to be played total). Team 1 decides player A will use the Romans in the 1st mirror match game, and player B uses the Gauls in the 2nd match game. Team 2 decides player D will play Gauls in the 1st mirror match game, and player C will use the Romans in the 2nd match game. So altogether the first match game has A against D, and second match has B against C.
*****Scoring
Winners of a battle get 60 points plus how much of a percentage they won by. Losers get how many casualties they inflicted.
For example: In the 1st battle, Team 1 player A beats player D 61-36, and in the 2nd battle player C wins against player B 40-15.
Team 1 - 1st battle 60 + 25 = 85 points 2nd battle 15 points total for both battles = 100 points
Team 2 - 1st battle 36 points 2nd battle 60 + 25 = 85 points total for both battles = 96 points
*****Elimination
Round 1 no teams are eliminated - all 8 teams remaining
After Round 2 the 2 teams with the lowest combined points from both R1 and R2 are eliminated - 6 teams remaining
After Round 3 the next 2 lowest scoring teams eliminated - 4 teams remaining
After Round 4 the next 2 lowest scoring teams eliminated - 2 teams remaining
After Round 5 the lowest scoring team is eliminated - 1 team remaining
After Round 6 the lowest scoring person is eliminated - 1 person remaining (winner)

Great!
Ideally when we get enough people (hopefully soon?^^) Because of other tournaments and the DL, I want this to not be a rush/burden to anyone. I'm hoping for a relaxed play, but at the same time not having it take too long to finish. I think the first tournament went fine, time-wise.

I'd like to join too, please. How about Thapsus to get more elephants/Numidians involved?

Re: There Can Be Only One II! - Looking for recruits!
Not a bad idea, about Thapsus. There's a pre-made scenario in FoG2 that I've played a few times that does Thapsus. Maybe some you guys can check it out and see if you'd rather have that one at the end? Let me know!

I wouldn't want to lose Pharsalus (ie pure Roman v Roman). I was thinking of one of the others being replaced forgetting that the battles were being fought in their historical order.
Re: There Can Be Only One II! - Looking for recruits!
As much as Romans offend me, I enjoyed that last round so please add me.

Re: There Can Be Only One II! - Looking for recruits!
*****I am going to change 1 thing this tournament, and that is in round 1 no teams will be eliminated. Instead the 2 teams with the lowest points from the FIRST AND SECOND ROUND'S COMBINED TOTAL will be dropped, but only after the end of the second round.
The elimination process will be like this:
After Rounds 1 and 2 - 2 lowest scoring teams from the first 2 rounds combined are eliminated - 6 teams remaining (12 players)
After Round 3 - 2 lowest scoring teams eliminated - 4 teams remaining (8 players)
After Round 4 - 2 lowest scoring teams eliminated - 2 teams remaining (4 players)
After Round 5 - lowest scoring team eliminated - 1 team remaining (2 players)
After Final Round - lowest scoring player eliminated - 1 player remaining (winner)
The least amount of games anyone will play is 2, and the most anyone can play is 6.

Re: There Can Be Only One II! - Looking for recruits!
Why not have round one consist of each team playing 2 other random teams and total up all 4 scores to get a result?
I think the other way I would feel bad if I went through after the 2nd game if I did badly in the first game but got lucky in the second.

Re: There Can Be Only One II! - Looking for recruits!
Good idea. Then bundle rounds 1 and 2 (otherwise too repetitive with 2 x round 1) into one, so that one team meets another team in the scenario for round 1 and meets a third team in the scenario for round 2, with all four scores summed up, determining who gets through to round 3 and who gets eliminated.TomoeGozen wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 6:11 am Why not have round one consist of each team playing 2 other random teams and total up all 4 scores to get a result?
