Balance Overhaul Mod

Post by FunPolice749 »

Greetings everyone this is my first mod and is a large scale rework of almost every single units within the game. The goal is to attempt to make as many units as possible worth using. In vanilla Panzer Corps 2 a lot of units end up being almost exactly the same and I think it overall limits people building more interesting army compositions while also leaving a lot of units to never see use unless chosen specifically because of how they look. I've taken it on myself to do a complete overhaul in an attempt to fix that. Currently this mod changes hundreds of units currently with various adjustments to make them stand out more.

You can find the current list at this link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nqpw15nfg3v0q ... s.csv?dl=0

In order to install this simple mod just find your Panzer Corps 2 content file, locate the Data folder and replace the Units.csv with the downloaded one (I would recommend just moving or renaming the base Units.csv file so you don't lose it).
For steam users you should be able to go the game in steam, right click it and browse local files to find it easily. Otherwise here is the direct path to take it
Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Panzer Corps 2 > PanzerCorps2 > Content > Data

Once you have replaced the file then simply starting a new scenario of campaign will have it active.

The rest of this post will be a change log for all the changes:
One quick note is if a nation made use of another's equipment (for example the Panzer 38) then all variants of that unit are changed the same way but they are explicitly listed to bloating this post.

Update 1.1
First update to the mod hoping to further flesh things out with more units and some tweaks to various stats. For the most part I'm happy with the overall feel the changes are offering but it needs tweaks. Heavy Infantry are a good example as they have gotten way better but I think they are hitting a little to hard. As such I'm taking the edge off them.
I'm also still trying to still figure out if/how to assign skins to specific units through the unit file. It's a thing I believe is important so units can be easily recognized and also just look good in general. If anyone knows how to accomplish this I would greatly appreciate if you could explain it to me
Regardless I've gone ahead and added many more units that will further shake up the game although the skins are not ideal right now. Eventually I'm going to tackle the Air Forces but because of how it's all balanced there is actually a lot of work in trying to balance the airpower as only a few stats really matter and they deal so much damage without that much to prevent it.

The Panzer IIC and Panzer 38t are listed of having -1 core slot but in the csv file they still cost 2 or am I missing something?

In vanilla they cost 3 core slots as do most light tanks that aren't like Panzer Is or similar. I reduced them to 2 core slots to give them more use compared to the early Panzer IIIs and Panzer IVs.

i've been playing the "Grand Campaign" mod mostly and they are listed as having 2 core slots, so I got confused but thanks for clearing that up

Patch 1.2

Another patch just about rounding out what I think I will add unless I can figure out how to more directly edit unit skins and thing like attack animations (If I can figure this out stuff like the KV8 flamethrower among other things become possible). On top of that I also have worked on fine tuning some of the new units and balance of units overall. Slowly working on an air force overhaul but this is requiring a change to pretty much every plane and AA which is going to be a while.

Infantry Changes
Added Mechanized Infantry to Major Nations (Expensive infantry that innately has the Fast Deployment trait allowing them to attack even after using a transport to move and will mostly be seen in 1944)
Added Motorized Infantry to Minor Nations (A weaker variant of Mechanized infantry that is given to weaker nations that couldn't mechanize its infantry. Also Germany gets one in 1942 as an elite infantry type)

Tank Changes
Adjusted Panzer IA time
Panzer IF added (Very heavily armored Panzer I appearing around Kursk 1943)
Panzer IIF moved to tank +1 initiative
Panzer IIIB +1 initiative
Soviet M5 Stuart added (Lend Lease Vehicle)
KV 1 Model 1942 renamed to KV1E and also +1 ground defense, +1 air defense, +4 close defense (better fits what the model and slower movement represents)
American M4A3(76)W renamed to Easy Eight +1 movement (reflects what the model actually is with a more recognizable name)
American M4A3E2(76) renamed to Easy Eight Jumbo +1 movement +1 core slot (reflects what the model actually is with a more recognizable name and make it's on par with Panthers now)

Recon Changes
Panzer IIG Recon Tank added (an attempt to upgrade the Panzer II as a recon vehicle. Failed to be mass produced but laid the groundwork for the Panzer II Luchs)
Panzer II Luchs +1 initiative
Toldi I and II recon variants added (available in 1944)
Hungarian Motorcycle added
Recon Infantry +2 Ground Defense, +2 Close Defense, -1 core slot (overall buffed as they felt to expensive and squishy. They still lack punch but should be more capable of not getting smashed by everything)
Many Recon Infantry have been remained to what they were more historically called (German Jagers, US Cavalry Scouts, Soviet Razvedka, etc)

AT Changes
StuH 42 AT mode +10 soft attack, -1 hard attack, -1 ground defense
ISS 122S +1 hard attack +1 initiative (late 1944 variant with higher fire rate)
Soviet M10 added (lend lease vehicle)

Artillery Changes
Adjusted StuG IIIB time
StuG III E added (A late production IIIB from September 1941)
Maultier Vielfachwerfer 82mm Added (Copy of Katyusha for German forces)
Karl Gerat, Gustac, K5 added suppression traits (Better balanced so they no longer one shot anything and can be better used in scenario creation)
Gustav Gun +1 core slot
K5 can now be bought and +1 core slot (Available in early 1943 but stuck to rails)
Hungarian Morser 21cm added (available in 1944)
Soviet Br5 280mm added (Super heavy artillery not purchasable right now. Useful for scenario creation)

I've been using your mod in my latest "Grand Campaign Mod" playthrough and I do lilke the changes, especially the new units are really a cool addition and also the changes to some AT units. I usually phase a Marder out fairly soon but I kept the unit for a really long time.

The AA changes to infantry are the most noticeable and they can be quite rough if there is an ART piece right behind them.
The only change I disagree with, is the increased slot core costs for the "Elefant". They might make sense looking at the stats but that thing is super slow and a Panther is only 5 core slots in comparison - so I would revert that back to 6.

However, really nice work on the mod. It would great if you could add a small note in your first post what the latest release is and the date - makes it easier to spot.

Keep it up!
