All the annoying things
All the annoying things
Maybe this can be a thread for all of the annoying things that should be fixed/changed.
1) Lack of diplomacy. Having all the AIs declare war immediately all the time is highly annoying and leads to many other problems.
2) Control of nodes. This is related to #1. Since all of the AIs declare war immediately, defending nodes is virtually impossible. In Classic MoM you can guard nodes with a Magic Spirit or Hell Hounds or Spearman, etc. just to prevent other AIs from sending Spirits to the node unless they are at war with you. But since everyone is at war with you, if you try to defend a node with a unit that unit will get attack constantly and the enemy AIs send massive stream of Spirits to take nodes, so it become useless to try adn defend them.
3) De-duffing in battles. The AI puts way too much effort into de-buffing. Its annoying because it interrupts the flow of battles, it actually hurts the AI since they don't cast much useful, and when the de-buffs are removed its just a hassle. The AI should not care about removing buffs that have little or no impact on the battle. Stop removing Water Walking and True Sight (when there aren't even any invisible units in the battle), etc. Unless the buff is actually decisive the AI shouldn't try to remove it.
4) Pathing issues, going around towns or other units that they should instead pass through.
5) The "This is a cave", "This is a Keep", etc. screen that pop up when you investigate an encounter. Don't need those.
6) Can't see into cities unless you are right next to them. You should be able to see in based on your field of vision, i.e. Flight and Scouting should let you see in from farther away.

Re: All the annoying things
7) no "Edge of screen" scrolling ----> fixed with next update
lack of customisation for games
9) Death school feels kinda boring
10) AI Movement....in lategames on a big map and the already mentioned streams of shades trying to occupy nodes means AI turn take a while... ----> fixed with next update it seems
11) no strategic map.
I ould like to see stuff like territory for each mage, and some kind of "filtering" the map for ressources or gates or nodes.

I'll also add Lizardmen gone crazy. IN every game the map ends up getting filled with crappy huge Lizardmen towns. The you are forced to either take a -5 Fame penalty for razing these stink holes or fill your empire with crappy Lizard towns that take forever to do anything.
For sure the cost of Lizardmen Settlers needs to be increased, if not, as others have suggested, a general increase in Settler cost across the board, but these Lizardmen are the worst.

The open BETA for the next update is postet on Steam Forums.TheStiegler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 9:41 pmHow did you discern that? Have they made an announcement about the next update? I don't see one on their page or on this forum...

i think you can read there even without a steam account.
I dont know, why there is no post here on the Slitherine Forums.
Re: All the annoying things
12) no combat prediction and the combat log is.....uhm questionable
Re: All the annoying things
13) The crazy starting lineup of units, almost always with ranged units in the front and melee units in the back. Also in cities with ranged units blocking the door and melee units on the edges difficult to maneuver toward the gate.

Slitherine has been asleep at the wheel with supporting this game but the devs have released a roadmap already I'll post here. I highly recommend joining the discord servers and using the steam forums as the devs are active there but not here.

Re: All the annoying things
Thank you for posting the roadmap. I'm not a big fan of discord.
Those changes look exciting.
Most everything I have thought of appears in OP.
I would like to add my 2 cents that a notification message when an Opponent Wizard successfully cast's the "Spell of Return" would be most appreciated.

Thx for the post and the roadmap.XethNyrrow wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:18 pm Slitherine has been asleep at the wheel with supporting this game but the devs have released a roadmap already I'll post here. so the DLC will release Spring 23 ?
And i never use discord....its a game published by slitherin, slitherine offers this forums and to be honest i simply expect that communication with the fanbase is here. Because of course steam is a good option, but not alle gamers of MoM and other games use Steam.
But all buyers can reach this forum.

Re: All the annoying things
The beta patch out now already has the items in the top 2 hexes on that roadmap implemented. Just like any dev roadmap, they are giving themselves leeway depending upon programming challenges they may encounter.Bee1976 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 5:54 pm Thx for the post and the roadmap.Im pretty sure i dont understand the roadmap...

Not wanting to make this a discussion about the merits of platforms but I will say that I have personally influenced several games in the past few years thanks to discord. Being able to build a relationship with devs has helped me shaped games in ways I wanted (included this one).
Re: All the annoying things
For me, the start of the game takes so much time, near 5 minutes.
Re: All the annoying things
Sorry if this is a repeat ask, but has anyone else run into/received a "critical issue encountered, saves have turned off" when you go to load? Then for fun, it says I have corrupted data when I try to save. Plus, no saves are shown, so, 2 200+ turn games are just gone.
Good news - easy fix - uninstall and use the downloads I installed from originally - no good - same issues. Ok, re-download game and update from Slitherine and launched - same #@$%@#% issues. Got a Steam key, tried it that way - same.
I have scoured my drive, removing anything remotely MOM, including on OneDrive, no change.
Where the hell is the corrupted sequence that each re-downloaded game is utilizing to screw up saving/loading?

Re: All the annoying things
Over on the steam forums there have been a few people with similar issues but steam also has a cloud save feature. The saves are stored by default in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\LocalLow\MuHa Games\MoM and I recommend just deleting that folder if you haven't already tried. This will of course delete your saves.HuskerBT wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:12 am Sorry if this is a repeat ask, but has anyone else run into/received a "critical issue encountered, saves have turned off" when you go to load? Re: All the annoying things
Thank you sir. Not quite fixed yet but hopefully it works eventually.
Re: All the annoying things
Same here, but only on the first load. if i close the task and restart it, it loads real fast. or if i play, turn out the game and start the game again later, it will load fast. but the first loading is hardcore....

Re: All the annoying things
Yes, all of those annoying things need to be fixed, but you left out the elephant in the room: the incredible annoying and backwards interface.
It's as if the designers paid to no attention at all to the interfaces of modern fantasy games. Or they did, but they hated all of them. I have no idea, it just makes no sense. Decades of excellent work on intefraces, just flushed away.
I loved original MoM. I want to love this version, too, but the interface and the bugs just won't let me.

Re: All the annoying things
Loading time...15 seconds to launch the program, then 30 seconds to load a saved game. Yet, game saves are instant. The game is not very large and should not take so long. It also takes a long time to install and update.
