Yeah, often. In AO 1942, Operation Cerberus, there are lots of recon planes.

Thanks. I Played AO DLC 1936 - 1941, and never seen opposite recon planes. I think its not good for game balance. With my 2 recon planes which cost only 1 slot i can see almost everything...

AO41, you can see enemy recon plane in Yelnya Offensive already. In AO44 Targu Frumos there are also recons searching the sea to reveal the Romanian destroyers you have to protect.

After my current playthrough the best and most important trait in the AO campaigns is..... OLD GUARD!
It is not just the experience, you also need the kill-awards you can achieve during the campaign. Since the balancing in 1943/1944 between the german and soviet forces is not really good (IS2 tank almost as good as tiger-2, wtf?!) you do need some extra power, like +3 hard attack for killing hard targets. You wont get that if you lose some of your tank units in 1942/1943.
Of course that only makes sense if you lose some units from time to time. In my david vs goliath & heroic showdown playthrough you cant really avoid that. Sometimes there are some ai units with powerful hero combinations that can even kill your best tanks.

recon planes need to be "hand-scripted" for the AI. sadly the PC2 AI has no auto-use for recon planes.Mateusz300 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 7:21 pm Thanks. in the AO campaign the designer decided around AO42 (i know for sure they are in AO44, but 42 is a long time ago for me) to start using recon-planes for the AI.

They're 100% used in the Sealion and English channel fights, as well as any optional navy missions you undertake. Much to my annoyance as Spitfires just dominate in those missions.
