Division C
phoyle3290 – Hunnic, Western 376-454 AD with Germanic Foot Tribes 260-599 AD allies defeats devoncop - Arab, Bedouin 300-636 AD with Byzantine 579-599AD allies - 61-37
We both fielded predominantly cavalry units (I don't have much of a choice), but the horse archers prevailed. My opponent lead a great comeback and came close to evening up the scores, but it just wasn't enough to turn the tides.
Good playing and thanks for the game!

Division B
ConstantinIX - Arab Conquest 638-684 AD beat Cunningcairn - Dailami 928-1055 AD with Armenian 885-1045 AD allies : 57 - 32
A difficult map for attack as it was divided by a stream giving advantage to the defender
I crossed on my left with all my cavalry as my opponent did the same on his own left with his dailamis supported by bowmen .
I was fortunate enough to rout his elephant quickly with two dedicated spearmen and after that my numerous cavaly was quick to rout his counterpart. In the meantime, my right flank crumbled but too late to reverse the score.
Good game.

Theme semi-finals
harveylh (Byzantines 600-649 AD) defeats Ludendorf (Avar 558-631 AD), 57-18
The Avars launched a do-or-die attack on the Byzantines’ left flank. The Byzantines rapidly redeployed and caught most of the Avar cavalry against the edge of the map and their infantry in the woods also on the edge of the map. This is the unusual part. Four different Avar units evaded off map and three Byzantine units followed them off map. Three Avar units returned and one of those evaded off map again. Only one Byzantine unit returned. Midway through the battle, the Byzantines had to restrain their attacks to avoid any more of their units to go off map. Never had a game like that before. The Avars are a weak army so they are likely to lose the mirror match and this will come down to points differential.

Thanks very much for the game SV.
Sometimes all the stars line up and this was one of those games.
A big bit of rough terrain forced my opponent to split his infantry forces.
My lights got the better of the skirmish engagements, my camels disrupted SV's bow armed cavalry and my bow armed cavalry swung the cavalry/lancer engagements.
All my Arab spearmen held on, whilst an equal number of enemy spearmen and huscarls.
And my lancers found gaps to attack the enemy's flanks to defeat their front rank.

lets celebrate that enlightened choice of list and combination of troop types, or that stunning charge, or continue to be awed and stunned by that unexpected collapse, and continue to enjoy the game regardless of the points!
I like you Sir!

Division D
rs2excelsior (Byzantine 551-578 AD) beat Doyley50 (Dacian, Carpi 107-380 AD) 40-13
The map was fairly open, with a river to the Byzantine left and a hill to the right. A small infantry force provided a bit of a base on the left flank, screened by light infantry and horse archers, while the main force of lancers formed in two lines on the right. Not much to say about the tactical maneuvers here - Lancers faced off against warbands, getting some lucky drops which allowed the horsemen to stick in and break up the warriors, and the Dacian cavalry was quickly overrun by the Byzantines which opened up a hole for Byzantine lancers to get into the flank and rear. The horse archers delayed the attack on the left, managing to shoot up some of the warbands moving in quite badly, but the Dacian infantry was able to make contact and would have overwhelmed the Byzantine infantry had the battle gone on longer. In the end, though, the warbands' fragility up against the lancers' fierce charge, flank charges from the lines breaking up and my cav getting into the rear, and some bad luck (my opponent lost a general on his very first charge of the game), and the Dacian hordes were thrown back from the Roman frontier.
