Update v.1.02.00 (March 26th, 2025)
Hope things have been well for everyone. Things have been busy, so it took me some time to make this necessary update. It includes: significant unit changes + new units + script changes/bug fixes + One Historical Battle.
HISTORICAL BATTLE ADDED:
BATTLE OF IMJIN RIVER (JOSEON) - Singleplayer Joseon Scenario.
I am finding scenario design really tricky, so I am going to need some more time figuring this stuff out.
GENERAL CHANGES:
-Added new sound files to better match a unit's capabilities, namely mixed gun/bow units will now have both gunfire and arrow sfx included + minor changes to unit texture and icons.
-Overhead shooting now requires >=50 Bow: this means Ming foot and Teppo/Yumi Sonae will no longer waste their shot with 18/33 Bow respectively, while others, such as Joseon's units, retain this mechanic.
-Reduced General duel chance to 10% from 20%.
-Foot units flank charging mounted no longer auto drops cohesion, and has 50 POA advantage vs 200 POA.
-Reduced rout time to 3 turns from 4 turns (de facto 4 turns from 5 turns).
->=50 Spearmen now has 100 POA against charging mounted. This translates to mixed Spear/HW units like Foot Samurai no longer having only 75 POA as in the previous version.
-Reduced mounted impact POA against non-heavy foot to 50 POA from 100 POA. This naturally nerfs Ming cavalry, but also mostly done to prevent Joseon cavalry from trading equally with steady Japanese troops in impact.
-Fixed mixed units containing Spearmen to have SEVERELY DISORDERED in difficult terrain like forests instead of MODERATELY DISORDERED.
-Tweaked unit capability values based on their base size, such as 6 bases and 8 bases, to be more in line with their costs.
-Overall, rewrote the number of units in all army lists to be more similar to base Slitherine games like FOGII. Ming are more well-rounded, skewed towards mounted. The Japanese have a larger pool of foot with fewer skirmishers and mounted. Joseon should typically have fewer non-light foot to be supported by a larger number of skirmishers (but not too overwhelmingly). Further tweaks will need to be made for balance.
-Minor grammar mistakes fixed in Battle of Chungju (Tangeumdae).
ARMY LIST CHANGES:
JAPAN:
-Teppō/Yumi Sonae (and Teppō Sonae) now have the correct Swordsmen value: Swordsmen (67) from Swordsmen (60). Tweaked Arquebus/Bow to Light Spear proportion to (66/34) from (67/33).
-Changed Foot Samurai to Spearmen (66)/Heavy Weapons (34) from Spearmen (75)/Heavy Weapons (25) - cost slightly increased to 50 from 49.
-Changed "Sarami" name to "Sunwae" (the Korean term for defectors during the war) for clarity.
-NEW UNIT - Naginata/Tachi Sonae - 6 bases - Medium Foot, Some Armour, Average, Heavy Weapons (34), Swordsmen (66) - 33 points. Representing a sonae re-equipped with long swords and polearms prior to deployment, to further reflect Joseon/Ming sources referring to the Japanese using "long swords" in battle, while gameplay-wise, to give the Japanese army list a cheaper melee unit that performs melee better in difficult terrain.
-NEW UNIT - Teppō Samurai - 3 bases - Mounted Infantry (or Dragoons), Some Armor, Average, Arquebus (100), Swordsmen (100) - 24 points
MING:
-Removed Chongbing (Light) - in an effort to reflect contemporary Ming's impression on Japanese gunnery skills, opted to let the Japanese be the only army list during the duration of the Imjin War to have arquebus light foot.
-NEW UNIT - Machongbing (RG) - 3 bases - Mounted Infantry, Some Armor, Average, Arquebus (100) + RG - 30 points - representing mounted gunners and cannon contingent of Ming cavalry.
-Removed Swordsmen (100) from Qibing (Light) - cost reduced to 21 from 27.
-Changed Yuanyangzhen (Mandarin Ducks) from Spearmen (75)/Heavy Weapons (25)/Arquebus (25) to Spearmen (66)/Heavy Weapons (34)/Arquebus (34) – cost increased to 42 from 36.
-Changed dismounted cavalry foot to have Bow (50) instead of Bow (40)/Handgun (10). Changed Dismounted Kuija Qibing unit icon to the more period accurate icon in the Mandate of Heaven DLC.
-Reworked Bubing (RG) to two new ranged foot units:
-BUT removed Wudi Da Jiang Jun Pao (Heavy Artillery) and reduced the quality of Da Jiang Jun Pao (Medium Artillery) to Below Average from Average - cost reduced to 34 from 40. To facilitate Ming's later development of larger cannons by importing Western cannons and making their own improvements to combat the Later Jin.
JOSEON:
-Changed Jeongbyeong (Late) to Bow (75)/Heavy Weapons (25)/Swordsmen (38) from Bow (67)/Heavy Weapons (33)/Swordsmen (38). Cost increased to 39 from 38.
-Reworked Sogobyeong to Sogobyeong (Early) - Medium Foot, Some Armor, Below Average, Bow (50), Arquebus (25), Light Spear (25), Swordsmen (63) - costs 39 points.
-Removed RG from Hullyeondogam - cost reduced to 49 points from 52 points (lower reduction because the previous value was cheaper than it should have been).
-Gave Hangwae full swordsmen (and changed name to correct spelling from Hyangwae). Cost increased to 39 points from 38 points.
-Changed name to Uibyeong (Reorganized), and quality from Raw to Below average. Changed to Bow (75)/Light Spear (25) from Bow (84)/Light Spear (16) - cost remains the same at 30 points.
-Reduced quality of Tuseokbyeong from Raw to Untrained. Cost reduced to 6 points from 12 points.
-Reduced Hwacha to Light Artillery (80) from Light Artillery (100), cost reduced to 19 points from 24 points. Cheaper and more numerous.
-Added Hwangja Chongtong – Light artillery (100) - 24 points.
-NEW UNIT - Baekseong – 10 bases – Mob, Unprotected, Untrained, No Capabilities – 10 points
"More guns, new toys, and bug fixes for the Ming and Japanese. Nerfs and a peasant mob for the Koreans in their own mod."

FUTURE:
As previously mentioned, I do want to expand on this mod all the way up to the Manchu Invasions of Korea, ending with Byeongja Horan. I will probably also add some earlier Joseon lists against Wokou and Jurchen raids. The scenarios and other updates are more of me taking up some personal challenge to further refine this mod, so I reckon new army lists will start being added by the next update, maybe with a new name for the mod.
In my rough draft, future army lists look as follows:
-Japan - will no longer have an army list after 1598 - the only army list resembling them being Wokou.
-Ming - continue via the Army of Liaodong, Battle of Sarhu, and subsequent conflict against the Later Jin/Qing by armies under the leadership of Mao Wenlong and Yuan Chonghuan.
-Joseon - continue the Sogo reforms to become a more arquebus-centric army with even fewer cavalry. Will definitely include the rebel army list during Yi Gwal's Rebellion in 1624, who fought the Royalist army outside the capital.
-Jurchens/Later Jin/Qing - include separate non-Jianzhou Jurchen army lists (Haixi, etc.), with the Jianzhou/Later Jin/Qing gradually becoming the most powerful faction in the mod - containing a combination of quality lance/bow cavalry, warrior bow/impact foot/swords (Jurchen/Manchu banners), cheaper bow cavalry/light horse, bow warriors (Mongol banners), and arquebus foot and artillery (Han banners).
Edit #1 - incorrectly stated that mounted lose melee POA against battle wagons.

- -Bubing (Loose Order) – Medium Foot, Some Armor, Average, Arquebus (66), Bow (18), Handgun (16), Light Spear (16), Swordsmen (42) – 39 Points – cheaper, but has the strongest ranged foot capability in the mod.
- -Bubing (Wagons) – Battle Wagons, Some Armor, Average, Arquebus (50), Heavy Weapons (50) + RG – 60 points – no unique texture and SJDAI base file wagons function as follows: Battle Wagons cannot charge, immune to flank charges in any direction, enemy ranged attacks, except artillery, get reduced damage against battle wagons, while cavalry lose all POA in impact (except quality and general POA) + the mod also added +1 cohesion checks for BW in impact/melee, and +25 POA on impact/melee like FOGII. Otherwise, moves and operates like any foot unit, albeit slower.
-BUT removed Wudi Da Jiang Jun Pao (Heavy Artillery) and reduced the quality of Da Jiang Jun Pao (Medium Artillery) to Below Average from Average - cost reduced to 34 from 40.
