Effectively civil war with very similar armies. The ground was quite broken and so I brought quite a few medium troops to the battle which seemed like an error when the later romans came all tooled up with maximum veteran legions. I spent a lot of the game hiding in rough terrain before summoning the courage to charge out. The superior numbers allowed me to get some flanks in and my own veterans and hastati slogged it out with the veterans in the centre. I eventually broke them down by managing to bring more troops to the combat and eventually finding some flanks on the other front line troops. The late romans did savage my left flank but it was lightly held with cheap troops and the loss was not too painful. There was quite a lot of manoeuvre on the right flank but Nellie came to my rescue and tipped the balance (and then spent most of the rest of the game chasing after some raw legions). Great game!

Nijis (Vikings, Ireland) defeats lydianed (Normans) 43-11.

The Normans took a solid defensive position strong position on a hill. The Vikings managed to crack a flank and turn on the rest of the line, but a little bit of luck in combat could easily have changed the result.

Division B

kraff (Indo-Parthian 60 BC-130 AD) defeated IMC (Ancient British 60 BC-80 AD with Roman 24 BC–196 AD allies): 64-37.

"Stunning!", "Epic!", "Carnage!", "Bloodbath!" - this is how IMC and I were describing events of this battle to each other. It was a very difficult battle for the Parthians. For the most of it they were on defensive and trying to get rid of those blasted chariots before fully committing to melee. That turned out a success, but was very costly so that at one point the Ancient British were leading by 20 points. Fortunately, this time elephant corps and cataphracts earned their keep and managed to make up for the losses and eventually win the battle. Thank you very much for the battle, IMC. One of the most interesting challenges this season.

Karvon - Bulgar (Volga) 1040-1241 AD with Cuman 1180-1394 AD allies defeated SLancaster - German (Imperial) 1155-1199 AD 51-26 for a 4-0 win.

A mix of horse delayed on our left and a small blocking force of MF did the same in the center. On our right we pushed forward with lights and horse archers supported by more MF and enveloped the Germans. Massed archery supported by an occasional heavy artillery salvo wore down the Germans.

It was a very bloody affair. The German knights (tanks) ranged across the battle field creating all sorts of havoc. The battle broke down into a brawl with individual groups bashing each other. A nail biter to the end.
