That was a very good presentation! I'm looking forward to this title, it looks like it will be a black hole for any free time! :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JksoUf2eh1I

It begins at the 2:35:07 mark.

Thanks!

I believe it strikes the right middle between a lot of new things while building up on its predecessor. But I might be biased

Pocus wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 3:21 pm Probably, as Slitherine has the habit of a two-week vacation period around Christmas and on second thought, starting the beta, pausing it then resuming in January would be suboptimal, most betas would leave during vacation. So no particular issue in the game, but an optimization of schedule
Small follow up question Pocus in respect opening up the beta.
Does that mean the staff wont have time to review the applications and give the keys for the beta in time for the holidays? As you just mentioned, I'm also going on vacay for a month and would have the chance to sink in a bunch of hours over the holidays to test out some things. I'm sure a bunch of other potential beta testers are in the same bucket and would be off with family over the holidays.
Thanks to Neil for the small presentation, seeing a bit more is comforting!

p.s. can you ask @savariga to change the date at the bottom of his post ? Its saying FOG:K releasing in 2022... https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=110760

It seems that the new Kingdoms section of the forum has become locked out to everyone, including the official announcement of the beta.

I read it a couple of days ago, now I can't access that thread when logged in nor as a guest.

The thread was for some reason moved to the Ancient Arenas section of the forums. So you can actually access it, but it is in absolutely wrong place.

Ok, it seems there is an issue. Slitherine will close in a few hours max, so it might be that the link is not restored before January.

Hello Pocus, I have a few questions for the game:

a) Trade with other nations should only be possible if you sign a trade agreement
b) It shouldn't be possible to add new resources anywhere, because
c) if I'm the only one who has a special commodity, for example coral, and I build buildings for a higher price, the others should also pay this higher price.
d) if several nations have the same goods, the Trade Acumen should decide where to buy.

In this Case, we have very interesting Situations and Wars for Trade.
For example:
Carthage owns the island of Melita. Corals are mined there. Rome builds a temple of the sea. This one requires coral. Since they don't have a commercial contract, they pay double the price. But Carthage is expanding its colony and, thanks to several buildings, can now demand double the price. Rome now has a choice: either they pay...or conquer the island.

That's pretty much how it should be.

So about (a) you want state trade only, no private sector? Weird ...
(d) this tends to be the case but is not a certainty. If it was, it would mean all actors in a transaction have perfect knowledge of all parameters, as if they were electronically wired with advanced and instant feedback. Even today, this is not what happens.

Hi Pocus,
I just had a look at the store page on Steam and under requirements I saw Minimum 8GB RAM. Since the game is not out yet, are those the actual requirements or just provisional info?

Thanks for the answer.

Provisional, it won't use more RAM than Empires.

Thank you for the answer. I was starting to get a little bit worried I would not be able to play this, but that is great to hear :D

Now, if you 'only' have 4 gigs, it might be indicative that your PC is old, and a faster PC is always good to run the AI turn.

Indeed my PC has 4 GB of RAM. I might get a new computer in the future, but not before summer. However, with FOGE, AI turn time takes between 10/20 seconds and assuming Kingdoms has similar RAM usage, that is totally acceptable to me.

Pocus -

Is it likely the following quality of life improvements for MP games will be included?

1. Add the ability to send/receive confidential messages to/from a player/player group within the game engine/service? Right now, you can't conduct confidential diplomacy unless you exchange emails. Otherwise, all you can do is post messages that everyone can see.

2. Add the ability in MP games for new players to take over dropped positions? This will help counter the attrition that steadily depopulates MP games.

Thanks, and look forward to your answer.

These 2 features are identified as the ones the most often requested. It does not all depend on me, but we will try to get something. This is not 100% certainty though, there might be an architecture problem on (2).

Pocus, after watching the video posted before Christmas it seems Kingdoms is really coming along, and I am very excited for it. :D After watching the video I had a few questions.

1) I noticed the long campaign ends at 1274. Does that correspond to any particular event? In other words, how did you choose this particular date as a cutoff?

2) As we know the medieval period didn't end in 1274, so can we assume that this will be an area of future expansion?

3) The map appears to approach modern India. Are there plans to include the far East including China, Japan, and Mongolia?

Thanks!

Hi there,

1274 instead of say 1270 has no specific meaning except to have a campaign last 200 turns. Now, 1270-ish era is on purpose, as it gives a bit of time for the Mongols to rampage through the map, while preserving some 'suspense' for the end game. Will you claim victory or will all be for naught, submerged by the hordes from the east ;) (actually your Legacy will remain...)

We hope to have future extensions indeed, going where/when FOG2M went! It will depend on the success of the base game obviously.

The base game will stop at Tehran, we plan to keep the eastern part for later and it is not really done beyond the graphics in any case.

Hi -

Thanks. Here is an idea on the second point, although I am not sure it addresses the architecture issue. On taking up positions in an ongoing MP game, I don't think it necessarily has to be a dropped position. In other words, if a game is started with 16 players, and now has 15 players because someone dropped, allow anyone to join that game on any un-played position, not just the one that was dropped.

Hey Pocus, any update on the beta?
