AO is a bit easy

I just finished the 1941 DLC the second time. The first time was quick, but after I realized I didn't get the 100 KV1-40, I decided to start again. Since the game was really easy in my first playthrough with my squad, I decided to give myself some challenges. In my second playthrough, the difficulty setting was Generalissimos, David vs Goliath (+5 strength to all enemy), Europe on a shoestring (no automatic prestige), and heroic showdown (one random hero each enemy). I gave myself 4 commander trait points though (to get the war trophies). I thought this time could be challenging, but I was wrong. I still one-shot kill most enemies, and turned every defensive mission into an offensive mission. I can still capture all victory hex in Moscow, and recapture Klin in the end.

- Moscow? A piece of cake

- Klin looks intimidating

- Enemy has no chance against me

Well you can always add further challenges until you find it a challenge. For example I play without heroes and with slow modernization and poor maintenance. It makes me constantly having to fight with 'vanilla' units that also are often not fully upgraded and also just randomly lose a turn. It makes it much tougher to get everything done on time and I've had to restart a couple scenarios because of a horrible breakdown in a key turn.
Or try any other number of combination of traits and challenges and find what makes it hard for you. That's something I've really come to love about PzC2 is that you can make the game as hard or as easy as you desire with some tweaking. There are a lot of ways to make this game a nightmare to beat if you try out more punishing combinations.

I think it depends on one's play style. You can keep adding more challenges, but it cannot break your core strategy. For example, one can never take ruthless (take no prisoners) if he relies heavily on encirclement. For me, I cannot play without heroes. My strategy simply doesn't work if I don't have heroes. Maybe you can still win the game without heroes at highest difficulty, but I really doubt if you can win the David vs. Goliath difficulty (+5 strength to all enemy) without any heroes.

Heroes AND trophies make even generalissimus too easy. Try the old GC mod, its much harder then AO and you can play it with heroes and pos traits.
AO is only fun if you play it WITHOUT pos traits and heroes - AND some neg traits.

If you look at the fun aspect purely by difficulty, then some trait/hero settings indeed can make even highest lever too easy, but there's tons of other things thank for me that make AO enjoyable. I prefer lower difficulty with some unique limitations and I'm having tons of fun - partially from being able to do a lot of customization while not being too worried about getting things done. I'll probably play the AO on Generalissimus one day, I even have an idea how to set it up in detail, but for now I'll stick to the more casual approach.

Maybe for you it's true. As for me, AO is only fun WITH pos traits and heroes.

I recommend trying the following negative traits:
- one hero per unit limit
- no overstrength
- delayed reinforcements
This combination prevents you from ever one-shotting enemy units and also the strength of your forces diminishes over time so you have to choose carefully where you want to commit.

Of course its only my opinion.
Since nowadays gaming ais are artificial idiots, the only real enemy you have is
time and
lack of supply. One big strenght of panzer corps 2 is, that you can precisly set difficulty to your taste, with many options. For example i try only 30% chance for heroes appearing in the gc mod now. Works well for me. But in my actual play through i have too much prestige, even without power 4 traits. I dont even need air cover, because ai bombing cant bleed me dry. Thats boring for me and it takes away an interesting part of the game: prestige managment: When do i use green reeinf., when elite ? The "nailbiting" when my favorite unit is hurt and i have no prestige left ...(imagine dying heroes like ole dir and it would be even more dramatic, maybe next patch as option like the appearance chance - devs

?)
Seems its a science, to adjust the perfect difficulty. I start the GC mod the 4 th time now because i havent found it. Seems you have to try some new settings too. And yes the AO is easy, because of the crying that people did because of spain and especially ebro.

SC is tough, even at regular difficulty. Ebro is especially tough if your strategy is wrong. I have never felt that challenge after SC, even at highest difficulty, and with other enemy boost.

I like historical games, but PzC 2 isn't historical one. So, I decided to play it like RPG and like to make character builds having 4 heroes and general traits. And to do this my wehrmacht needs 100% heroes. It's interesting to find new combinations and to try them in battles.
But maybe I'll try +5 strength of enemy units - there'll be more trophies.

Definitely sounds like some players are ready to start turning on some of those Special Challenges such as +5 enemy strength and Uphill Battle.

And the thing about hero balance and combo heroes getting out of control... this is just how the game works. We want players who like to play that way to be able to play that way. But it is entirely possible to fine tune your experience as you see fit if that is not how you prefer things to work.

Options are awesome. Someday I hope Panzer Corps 2 looks like Transport Tycoon in just the insane amount of options available to customize and fine tune.

But remember that diving into customization or even more advanced game file tweaking and editing is for advanced players by its very nature. The default mode of everything 'as is' is for the player just looking to jump right into the game. I'd call them casuals, but that has a negative connotation of late. Ain't nothing wrong with casual gamers. I'm a casual gamer when it comes to the vast majority of things I play, I just don't have time to invest in them as I would with Panzer Corps 2.
