Order of Battle Would be Awesome in WWI Setting

Post by Romavatandasi » Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:44 am

Fortification system, effectiveness of artillery, uneffectiveness cavalry, recon system, when you think about that, order of battle would be awesome WWI game, I just thought that when I play Soviet-Japan fight, this game can take place at Soviet uprising, Turkish war of independence and before that, maybe d-day, if urban warfare can be upgraded, fall of berlin.

Base game is indeed awesome and quite unrivaled, from balkan wars to syrian civil war, this game has great potential because it is casual game with easy learning curve also fun to play.

Don't ask me why I make this post, I just love this game and played after long time Turkish lang fix.

WWI bro ? I'm sleepy when trying to think how i play Western front in 1914 and 1915. Just infantries blob + arty pieces because there's no tanks and full of 10-digged units around. Aircrafts is mostly designed for recon, and the way they fight each others looked more like a showcase because you have no "real" bomber to make any serious reasons to dominate sky.
Slowly, indeed, super slowly advancing, you will need tons of time just to kill infantry just by infantry or just leave them scattered to see your supply line beeing cut off. What if you try to circle them without tanks ? You go to enemy arty range and go out of our arty's cover. Without tanks, no decision breakthrought would be done.

The game should be from Spain civil war to Korean war.

WW I naval would be fun. WW I air warfare would be about the same. Trench warfare, not so much.

Some materials from the First World War were still used during the Second World War.

I actually agree it could work well in a WWI setting.

If large-scale trench warfare would be everybody's cup of tea is another question, but the early stage wasn't that way, and later you have all the interesting developments like aerial warfare, early tanks etc, plus some naval warfare, naval landings (Gallipoli) etc. to spice it up IMO.

The main prob is the production effort and time needed, it would require much more than a usual DLC to have few WWI related features (trenches) and a satisfying amount of units, even when we can reuse some of the artillery (indeed a number of guns we have are from WWI times).

You could have really fun scenarios during the 1914 and 1918 offensives, there might be an interesting way to do some of the major western battles inbetween as well like verdun. The eastern front and middle eastern front would also be fun to play as it was a little more wide open.

An alternative logo txt could be The Great War.

BTW, I just checked John Tiller Games. They have released 3 WW1 1914-campaigns (Serbia, France, East-Prussia) with a number of scenarios. Other than (a lot of...-) new units and maybe some new terrain, specialisations etc there should at least be no problem creating enough content.
