Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Lancastrian Victory at Towton!
Kiwiwarlord (House of York) 43% losses defeated by PeterThePainter (House of Lancaster) 6% losses.
“Never, in the field of human conflict, have so many slightly disadvantage conflicts been turned into cohesion drops being suffered by the superior units” – Kiwiwarlord.
Of course Brian didn’t actually say this, but on the basis that the victor writes the history (Winston Churchill) and that history is the uncontested lie (Napoleon Bonaparte) let the record show that he did. He certainly felt it and it happened, on a number of occasions his units fighting with a height advantage crumbled.
This is a monster of a battle, so many units in a confined space and with terrain restrictions meaning a head on assault is the only option. One round of suffering from the shooting of the Yorkshire Bowmen convinced me that sitting on the hill just firing back at them was going to be a waste of time so we stormed off the hill aiming for a melee as soon as possible. It didn’t get anymore subtle than that apart from trying to overwhelm bowmen with Men at Arms where possible and feeding in as many units as possible against each Yorkist unit exploiting fallbacks where they arose. A tactical masterpiece it was not (but maybe a reflection of the period when the mace became a weapon of choice).
Commiserations to Brian for having no luck throughout the game. Perhaps the solution for The White Rose is to retreat to their hill until reinforcements arrive and then try to win with superior force.

Most generous posting such comments Peter but I did play badly and found the terrain hard to read and did not know about reinforcements en route.PeterThePainter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 7:36 pm Lancastrian Victory at Towton!

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
2nd St Albans result using FOGM version....Lancatrians defeat Yorkists 50%-11%
God save the true King!
As discussed above, we decided to re-start and play out the scenario using the FOGM version. A very good game, in which we tried to adopt the same doctrine as at Towton, by pushing forward and engaging the Yorkist forward positions as quickly as possible, while expanding to threaten the flanks, allowing them little time to re organise.
This yeilded sufficient success to enable the enemy flanks to be engulfed sealing our victory.
It has to be said, that Lascar was very unfortunate, and recieved very little in the way of luck, and I offer my comisserations to him and respectfully thank him for the game.... We'll take the victory though

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Alan, 2nd St Albans was also a lancastrian victory 50%-11% (as anounced above)
I take it that this result is still valid being as we used the FOGM version? or do we still have to play through and finish the P&S game?

Yorkist Victory at 2nd Battle of St Albans !
Just as night fell the Lancastrians turned and fled the field after a very hard fought battle with both sides having a chance of Victory right up until the end of the last move.
Kiwiwarlord's 11,000 Yorkists 46% defeat PeterthePainter's 12,124 Lancastrians 60%

He will have a quiet word with his new found ally, Henry Tudor, about the traitor in the camp. This hapless Lord will certainly desert to the Yorkists - but who can it be? All is to be revealed.

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Alan, I am confused! On the basis of this round I think the Lancastrians won (but not over the two rounds), but Warrior 230 is on the Red Rose Team already (contributing a mighty two victories). So surely Gavin or Brian should switch to the winning side (historically)and decide which of us hapless Lancastrians will switch to the losing side!ahuyton wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:45 pm Doyley50 (L) v Gdod (Y)

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
I agree with Peter... we are now at the mercy of the Yorkist best performer to decide which one of us is the traitor? How exciting!! (I don't want to end up under a carpark)
Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
What's a car? Where is this "car" parked? Should I be worried? Is it a secret weapon? Why haven't I been issued this secret weapon? Am I being betrayed by my fellow Yorkists? Why is my seat at the council table "temporarily unavailable" due to a "unforeseen malfunction"? Moreover, why is there always a strange powder sprinkled in my wine? And when I try to arrange an audience with Richard or Edward to discuss these matters, they are always at the hairdressers, or having a manicure!warrior230 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:29 pm I agree with Peter... we are now at the mercy of the Yorkist best performer to decide which one of us is the traitor? Honestly, if it wasn't for that friendly new butler who is always staring at my neck, and who appears infatuated with sharpening the cutlery whenever I'm around, I could get just a little tiny bit paranoid!
Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Oops, confusion reigns.
The Lancastrians won so the best performing player on the Yorkist side joints the Lancatrians. This is quite difficult to decide as the results for Brian and Gavvon were very similar - I think I will select Brian as his victory was a bit better.
Brian then selects one of his new found allies and sends them back to the Yorkists. So:
Lancastrians
Kiwiwarlord
Plus 2 of the following:
Doyley50
PeterthePainter
Warrior230
Yorkists
Gdod
Lascar
...
Apologies for the error and thanks to Peter for setting it straight.

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
I think the form during the WOTR was for bribes in cash or the promise of advancement to be offered (modern British politicians shy away from cash but redecorating or political advancement are OK still). So Brian do you want to Master of Chamber Pot or do you have your eye on the top job (after all Henry VII was a latecomer to the cause)?

Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Well there have been many "tweets" & "squeeks " about carparks and I am sure Lascar would be handy with a spade after being 'hammered' twice by Warrior230 so Doyley50 & PeterthePainter will join me in securing the Red Rose to the Throne of England.
Re: War of the Roses Round Two Towton and St Albans 2
Welcome aboard Paul. We're glad you have realized that the Lanky lads rose will ultimately be covered in your retainers own blood. Our pure white is clearly a better option. And you're just in time for Edward to be formally crowned King of England. I hear John of Gaunt is bringing some minstrels over from Spain. So, the party is going to be a right royal rave! However, my butler informs me those Gregorian chanting monks are becoming a big problem!
