Failing to Send Turn to Server

Post by twyearling »

Is anyone else having an issue when trying to send their first turn to the server on the Winter tournament that has just started? I've tried 4/5 time and on different PCs.

Thanks

The most likely reason would be a temporary server outage. I returned my first turn without a problem yesterday, and it seems to be working when I try a test game today.

I would suggest trying again, and letting us know if there is still a problem.

Many thanks, will try later.

I've been having this problem over a week now on both FOG II & FOG II Medieval.
Did anyone fix it?

Clearly the server hasn't been down for over a week, so it seems likely there is some kind of system specific issue you are having. Have you been able to send turns in the past? You are best off starting a new thread on your issue, or alternatively contact support@slitherine.co.uk and they can take a look to see what is going on.

Problem with the server currently?

I've got the "Game has failed to send multiple times" error now. Haven't had in a long time, maybe a year or more ago.

I am repeatedly encountering this issue, often for multiple days in a row and then it will clear up before returning again after a day or a few days. the fact that no details about why the turn submission failed makes it virtually impossible to determine what actual network issue is causing the problem.

Please either provide a more useful error information in the message (besides the implication I might be cheating by tretrying a turn) or else some logging some place to allow me some chance to figure out what might be causing the problem. Even simple web pages provide useful status codes or information in their messages. As someone who has worked as a software developer and in computer operation for many years, please provide information beyond "you can try again or our system will record you as a possible cheater" to paraphrase the current uninformative and insulting error message. If your multiplayer servers are so severly overloaded they can't handle the traffic, then you need to upgrade your capacity and also post publicly that users should expect issues.

(The support response to my reporting this to support was basically a useless suggestion that I keep on trying to submit the turn.)

Sorry for the hassles you are having. Can you answer a few questions:

+ are you seeing the same issues with FoG2 and with FoGM?
+ do you usually connect using wifi or on a hardline?
+ if you give up and redo the turn do you ever find that the turn has actually uploaded and it is now the opponent's turn?

I am going to dig into this behind the scenes as well to get some better numbers on these kinds of outages.

Cheers

I have seen the issue with both FoG2 and FoGM although not certain I have on the same day. (Most recently was with FoG2. Last bout of it happening before that was with FoGM.)

I am using wifi from my laptop.

I have once or twice seen that turn had updated but normally it hasn't.

Thanks for your help.

Today, I'm experiencing the problem again with FoG2 (started late yesterday for a turn I haven't cancelled yet and still occurring today.) Does not currently seem to be an issue with FoGM, incase that's useful info.

p.s. Found what looks to be the associated error log which has this at the end:

That is useful. I will continue to follow up.

Just to remove variables, how stable is your wifi? How long do you usually take to complete a turn?

Cheers

My wifi seems stable for the most part. ISP isn't the best but works most of the time.

For a non-initial set up turn with choosing troops, I'd guess an average turn is 5-10 minutes but I usuaally don't track time closely. The game most recently experiencing theissue was probably shorter than that since it's fairly close to conclusion and hence quicker to finish. I do sometimes leave a turn open while taking a break to eat or just to think in a tight situation before making a decision. (\

I did save the complete error log where I posted the extract from above. The turn did finally upload successfully after almost a full day of trying and I have the log through that point.

In case this is any use
I am having a similar problem and have had it previously.
Just posted a separate topic in Tech Support before reading this and here is today's FoGII error log from last attempt to log in.

And this was the FoGM log just less than an hour prior - this is where I received turn would not load but when I did cancel the turn I found the parent game gone from my inbox.

Have removed all data object and move records but can send these if useful
