Hello,
I just found out, that steam is going to not let you use their services with Windows 7 by the end of the year.
Will there be an option to remove drm and use the game without the steam software by the end of the year.
Or will it be burned money.
The same may happen 2 years later for Win 10 users. So it is not recommended to buy from steam, if you do not want to use and buy the newest Windows versions in the long run.
Please do not tell me to install a different OS. I like my Windows 7 as it is.
Kind regards
Steam Version - end of Windows 7 support

Re: Steam Version - end of Windows 7 support
While I appreciate your frustration, the overhead to support a tiny minority of users is likely too much to justify for them. You really (really) should upgrade. W7 is no longer secure, and unless you are on Microsoft's ESU program, hasn't been for more than 3 years.
My W10 install looks and feel pretty much identical to W7. Just install your free W10 update, install OpenShell (or whichever shell customizer you like) and move on. Upgrading is part of a technological life.
Cheers
Pip

Re: Steam Version - end of Windows 7 support
I did not ask for advise to buy a new OS and explicitly stated that I do not want to get your 2 Cents on what OS I do use.
If this was sexual preference and not OS preference you would not even dare to say, we do not care for minorities.
So to say it clear:
You will not find a solution for people who bought the game on steam. Not end of the year for Windows 7 users and probably not in 2 years for all the windows 10 users when Microsoft wants to sell Windows 12 and makes the next deal with steam to drop the next batch of users.
As it is, you have a no DRM versions being sold on GOG...
I may even buy the one game that I like most from you without DRM as it is not your fault in the first place.
But I think you missed an opportunity here.
And you better remove your advertized Windows 7 support from all games on steam:
Like for FoGE as it is today:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM:
OS: Windows 7, 8, 10
Processor: 2GHz processor
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 1 GB DirectX 9 Compatible Graphics Card
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 2 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
Because people may be not liking it, when they can only use the steam service on Windows 7 for just a few months.
Even less than me, who will get one and a half year out of the purchase.
It was my bad to buy games with DRM and Eula or believe in a specs sheet without studiying every single sentense of a foreign language EULA with dozens of pages carefully and I will not make the mistake ever again.
But please do not mind me asking for some solution.
See it as a test of character for your organization.

Re: Steam Version - end of Windows 7 support
They announced it last week... You will not be able to open steam with windows 7 by the end of the year.
And they do not intend to compensate. Because they have a line somewhere in their EULA that they may improve the services at any time.
They want to move to a newer version of Crominum browser for their steam application.
And this one does use dx12 and not support windows 7 anymore.
But of course, they have a steam client that does run windows 7 and could just keep it around.
Don't buy from steam.
DRM obviously is not the way to go.

Re: Steam Version - end of Windows 7 support
After researching a bid more, if found a solution:
Actually there is a solution that some XP-owners use to still use steam with Win-XP: You can tell the steam client to no longer update. That way there will be a working windows 7 version around.
create a steam.cfg file in the steam folder with the line:
BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
or add the following parameters to your shortcut you start steam with (better all steam shortcuts anyone may click):
-noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl
