On the opening page of AC, there is an image of 4 GI's going ashore on a beach with steel hedgehog obstacles.
Why are the GI's wearing German helmets?
American steel helmets till 1980 had no "Fritz" ear flaps. They were all uniform around the entire circle of the hemisphere.
I wore one...

When I saw that picture, I did vaguely recognise the helmet, but it has exaggerated features. When looking at photos I think perspective and shadows can create the illusion that the sides are curved like that. But I don't think they look like German helmets, if anything they look more like WW2 Soviet helmets.
The menu background of Afrika Korps also has an amusing error, as pointed out by someone immediately after launch.
If they are indeed liberated German helmets, maybe they found them floating in the sea?

The only thing I always wondered is... why are we in the desert in the Normal Campaign's main background when that campaign is missing the desert scenarios

So you noticed that as well!? Those palm trees (?) almost make it look like they are in the tropics. Probably took a wrong turn somewhere...

Considering that the most important scenario in the vanilla campaign is usually Moscow, the picture should probably be a Tiger stuck in the frozen mud
