So after a few weeks break I reinstalled to give it another try.
I have some observations.
Lutzen map. Normal setting
AI seems to love charging up hills and across rivers.
At best I lose a few and they sustain no losses.
At worst I'm just devastated and they suffer very little.
The AI charges me in a city and suffers no losses while I loose heavily.
I attack a city down hill (with support) and get slaughtered. (same city)
I shoot my artillery at a unit right next to me and inflict no damages.
The AI artillery creams me from a distance.
The AI units when they are one loss from breaking are still somewhat invincible for a few turns.
I mean 2 infantry and one artillery fire - no losses.
I'm not looking for an absolutely accurate simulation but come on now.
Shouldn't Normal setting be the same for both sides?
These issues make this game useless as far as fun goes.
I'm playing the same scenarios over and over with the same results.
The results are not every single time but way to biased to the AI.
I understand Napoleonic tactics and the way to use the units.
I'd like to be rewarded instead of spanked.
I really want to love this game.
The scale and length of battles is wonderful.
It's so close to being exactly what I want.
But these things need fixed.
I do hope my ranting at least points you in the right direction. Balance.
Please a small update.
I'm gonna try and not play till then.
This game is filling my head with nasty 4 letter words.

Re: re installed
MM: Something is amiss. I have not played Lutzen. But I have played: Waterloo, Austerlitz, Borodino, Friedland and Aspern-Essling. I played all of same on "normal" and have none of the issues you have. I find that the AI and I get more or less the same combat results when we do similar things. I have lost some games but won more. And I only count a game in the win column if I have taken all geographical objectives. Go figure.

Re: re installed
I have to agree with Johnus as I've completed the whole campaign. But other than Waterloo? I think the "Lutzen" scenario is one of the hardest. Took me five times to win it.
I'm sure if the Shenandoah devs see your statement that they will reply. Shenandoah is good for that, unlike some others The AI seems to be fine with me and it can be harsh at times but otherwise it seems fine.
Give it another shot MM.

Re: re installed
To be clear. These are not the campaign battles just battles on the maps.
I'm not having a problem winning the battles. It's just not much fun when these things happen with some regularity.
More regularity than seems reasonable.
Makes me feel like I'm battling game quirks and not the enemy.
And the same just doesn't happen for my units.
I just played a battle on the Dresden map. Some AI units just wouldn't take casualties for several hits/attacks.
They sometimes attack multiple times with no damage.
I don't ever remember attacking a healthy unit without suffering something.
The Bautzen map seemed just fine.
My problems seem to be worse on some maps.
Anyway
thanks for the replies.

MM: Not sure what you mean by Campaign Battles verses just Battles on Map?
