Re: Unit Badges
Hello fsx,
thanks for your note. I try to understand.
In my first version I used for the aircraft units images with the format 296x296 pixels. With this format, the same aircraft in the air (1st line?) is used also for the air/ground mode. If the standard format for aircraft units (296x444 pixels) is used, the bottom plane (3rd line?) without the badge is shown. I will change (Badges also for aircraft in the 3rd line) this! As I said, these were the first units and when everything else is ok, I will prepare the icons for the next upload. Thanks for the feedback!
Greetings!

Re: Unit Badges
... And now we come to the interesting subject of how different unit structures could be represented. Member cedonxp asked if such a thing were possible.
Starting point would be the rough parts of a tank division as bonus or elite units with the specific division badges:
Tank:
Artillery:
Infantry:
… to be continued ... in the following message…

Re: Unit Badges
...The normal structure of combat forces would be from top to bottom:
-Division
-Regiment
-Battalion
-Company
If we could agree that the top level is division as the highest level, then three possible sub-levels would be possible. This could be implemented as follows. The unit badge sets the division level. The following levels can be displayed beside the division sign as small numbers, as seen in the following example:
In this case, from left to right represents the 1 Regiment, the 2 Battalion and the 3 Company. Alternatively, these numbers could be shown in a something greater size on the “free side” or in the unit name. Then you can make further variants, for vehicles you can choose different camouflage patterns, attaching numerals and kill marks and for infantry by varying the uniform colors (sometimes difficult to see). At this point, several questions arise:
What is the better way for the Icon?
Should I present the units with badges or only the badges in the corresponding scaled quantity for your own use?
Greetings!

Re: Unit Badges
Wow, thats cool! I honestly could go for either concept and be really happy. But for sake of choosing I like your numbering scheme. Man I love what you're doing here.

Very good England 1945 Campaign badge!

Re: Unit Badges
Hi friends of unit badges or badged units,
thank you for your positive feedback!
That's what I needed to keep going. If there is otherwise no other improvements, then I'll try to present one after another complete core units (eg, 21st Panzer Division - German Africa Corps) or other elite units (eg 1st SS Panzer Division LSSAH) with all its sub forces (in addition to tanks, artillery and infantry, there were also reconnaissence, signal, tank destroyers, antiaircraft, engineers ...). In addition to this, I will present fictitious units with badges (Krupp Löwe tank or ground / air missile system Rheintochter) for further use.
Btw. The system of division structure and elite units could also be implemented for Soviet (Guards), Italian (Bersaglieri), US (Marines and Rangers) and English units (Highlands, SAS...). The only thing to do is to find the right elite unit badges for these troops?
Well, then now would be again an opportunity to make special requests (size, location, colour, structure...) to the badge, otherwise the “badge train” leave now the train station ...
A technical question: Is there a way to upload more than three files or images?
Greetings!

Re: Unit Badges
To complete the work posted by Asuser, related to the special Brückenpioniere badged unit icon, here it is the complementary transport unit for that outfit... The very special Schwerer Pioniertransporter L4500, in its wheeled and "maultier" (half track) version.
This was the result of a very positive (and fun!) collaboration work between the two of us. I hope you like the result, we did, of course!

Re: Unit Badges
...Ok, as announced at this point I show the badge panel. The badges are displayed consecutively numbered and sorted by ground, air and maybe naval units. Despite careful investigation there could be faults in the real names or in the numbering...Sorry about! It is continuously updated so stay tuned ...

Re: Unit Badges
Now let's watch, how the badge logic for a slightly smaller unit structure looks like or would be implemented. As an example, I looked at the unit structure “Schwere Panzerabteilung 501…507” (Heavy Tank Battalion 501 ... 507). As a source for the implementation I have oriented on the book "Tigers in Combat II" by Wolfgang Schneider. The heavy tank battalions were sometimes alone, independent operating armored units that were largely equipped with the Tiger I and II heavy tanks. In the initial period of the war (until 1944) these were partially equipped with the Panzer III for the suppression of infantry. In the final phase of the war only the heavy tanks were used.
Well, how the structure looks now? The “Panzerabteilung” is in the hierarchy equivalent to the battalion. According to my source, these units contain three companies, each company contain three platoons, each platoon contain four tanks. In addition, each company contain a company commander- and a staff tank. Which makes a total of 14 tanks for each company. For the gameplay you could send three units, each with strength 14 to the battlefield. Badges structure would be 0 (no division), 0 (no battalion, it is determined by the badge), 1 ... 3 (1st -3rd company). For the presentation of the vehicles now no limits are set (see my thread "Pimp your icon!"). In addition, for example, an exchange tube can be indicated for the barrel like implemented for 3rd company (DCS: Indian Red for the primer paint). For the presentation I decided to use the badge of the 507, other badges are conceivable. The 507 was also known for painting on turret numbers with different heights. Be creative! That would be my suggestion:
This system could also used for an example to implement soviet units. The example I will post here soon...stay tuned...
@cedonxp: Do you need some specific units or is the random publishing ok?
Greetings from Germany!

Re: Unit Badges
Random Publishing is ok. Thanks for the time and effort. I really appreciate all the effort.
Re: Unit Badges
As for the “Schwere Panzerabteilung” in the German army we can also present for the soviet units a badge structure. However, there are some things of the structure to observe. As a source the book "Stalin's Heavy Tanks 1941-1945” by Zaloga / Kinnear / Aksenov / Koshchatsev and a script „The Structure and Organization of the Red Army's Tank Forces“ by V.Potapov was used. For example, the terms are defined differently for regiment and battalion. The final phase of the war was the time, were heavy tank IS-2 used in so-called Guard heavy tank regiments. These regiments were conducted as part of a brigade or higher defined as independent tank unit. The regiments consisted of four companies, each with 5 tanks and also a lead tank. If a brigade then consisted of three regiments than that brings about 65 tanks in total.
If we now presented the structure of the Schwere Panzerabteilung 501 ... 507 (3 x 14 = 42 tanks), there would a equivalent of (4 x 5 +1 = 21) Tanks IS-2 are as a result. Then, to get not a strategic disadvantage for the game from the beginning, not 5 but 10 tanks could easily be chosen for the company strength. This could then be conducted with strength 10 on the battlefield for a Guard heavy tank company.
Unfortunately, the soviet units has not the variety of different unit badges, so starting with the highest level of Guard heavy tank units, the brigade. In 1942, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR introduced Guards ranks and Guards badges. The badge i used for is the Guard badge, seen on uniforms, tanks and fighter planes.
The structure can now be used at a famous unit, the 7th Guard heavy tank brigade, 104th Guard heavy tank regiment. This unit was involved in intense fighting in the final battle in the capital Berlin and could now receive the Guard badge numbers 7 (Brigade), 104 (regiment), 1 ... 4 (Company).
For a realistic presentation remains to note that the red stars were not so often used on the turret. There are more tactical signs, slogans, or vehicle numbers on photos to find. Here are also different types of presentation: 1 ... 21 consecutively numbered, three-digit number as on the German tanks (company, platoon, vehicle) and also the same system but with reverse order. Soviet tanks and other vehicles were not usually painted with a special camouflage, the paint were rather dark or olive green. To show some variety, different camo schemes from the DCS as well as self-designed camo scheme used for the presentation. The four companies now look like this for 1th and 2th company:

A similar structure could also used for other Guard tanks (T-34) and artillery (SU-122, 152) units. With more and more units summarized together we come to the structure of complete mechanized corps and armies. For the creativity the sky is the limit.
Feedback welcome!
Want to see more, e.g. also airplanes with "fighter squadrons"?

Re: Unit Badges
Of course, the latest weapon systems are needed for my Sealion campaign. One of these is the heavy battle tank Krupp Löwe with the new advanced infrared night fighting system Sperber/UHU II (sparrowhawk/owl). In addition to this, different camo schemes are tested. Some of the crews paint also aggressive fangs or animals on their vehicles! The first two vehicles of heavy tank battalion 150 are shown here:
There's more to come...you can be excited...

I AMM!!!!
Re: Unit Badges
I will do my best ...
And now ... it is time to strengthen the air defense. After much research it was possible to construct the stable and accurately flying air defense missile "Rheintochter". The missile is controlled by radio signals. To equip larger units we initially fitted first a secret test command, the Ground/Air Rocket Battalion 1. The enemy was already completely surprised and shot down pilots spoke of a flak hell on earth...
It would be great if someone launching a new attack graphic and sound for this weapon ...
In another thread i asked about the function for this baby and most of all there was the recommendation to us it as a flak weapon and not as a kamikaze thing (like V1, V2), so here it is:
3, 2, 1 - Fire!
To be continued...
