I would like to have some of the key interface in ancient Greek

What do you need to do this?

The file ResourceTexts.resx looks promising but I also suspect that editing it could crash the program.

what kind of translations (or what part of the game) are you specifically talking about? If you want to help us translated the game, we would be happy for that:) If you want to translate just few texts, it depends on what kind of texts are you actually refering to.

I am not intending to do a full translation for an Ancient Greek friend who knows no English (though there must be native speakers of other languages who would want to do this).

I would like to translate a few key messages that I have to pay attention to in the hope that helps extend my Ancient Greek vocab a little

So messages like "You have just been give x amount of Gold"
or the description of the training you can give to your military units.

In short things that I read often and convey important information.

Sure that can be easily done. I would recommend to wait for the upcoming "Creators update" which greatly simplifies all this. It will be released this week.
