Division D
Schweetness101- Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) 202 BC defeated SLancaster - Indo-Greek 175 BC-10 AD with Indian 500 BC- 319 AD allies: 61-37
Was a close game, closer than the score betrays due a number of late game rallies for me. The battlefield was split by a forest in the middle that SLancaster deployed behind with his massed archers inside of it, and chariots and elephants on his right. I moved forward with a light foot screen to protect my infantry from massed archer fire, and attacked and routed the massed archers in the forest with phoenician foot and scutarii, but suffered some chain routing of my left wing from a chariot flank and elephant attack. My light foot also suffered from elephant pursuits, being regularly chased down and caught, leaving me down by quite a few points early in the match. However, the Indian close fighter and bowmen line in their middle and left eventually succumbed to the superior numbers and quality of Carthaginian foot, and a few cavalry flanks, while the veteran african spears held off a pike unit until I could get two flanks in on it.

rbodleyscott (Arab Conquest) drew vs youngr (Anglo-Danish + Welsh) 52-55
Arabs got to an early apparently commanding lead, then gradually lost the lead, and in the end were very relieved when night fell.

Re: Late Antiquity; winners post your results here . . .
Division D
rs2excelsior (Byzantine) beat Ulysisgrunt (Kingdom of Soissons) 64-47
The two armies meet on a fairly open map with a few patches of rough ground, very good ground for the Byzantine lancers. A small force of Byzantine infantry and archers held the left flank, intending to pin that wing in place long enough for the lancers to do their work, while a large force of lancers supported by horse archers swung around the right flank. The Soissons troops deployed in two ranks--their higher quality infantry (Legio Comitatensis, Auxilia Palatina, and warbands) in the front, backed by another line of Limitanei in support. A small handful of cavalry was in reserve in the rear. The Soissons left flank held back, delaying the impact of the Byzantine lancers, but were eventually outflanked perpendicular to the original line and routed. The Byzantine infantry held up better than I expected, honestly, and even managed to rout a handful of enemy units, but they failed to hold their ground long enough for the lancers to catch up. The remaining Soissons forces redeployed and did a remarkably good job of denying the Byzantine cavalry flanking charges and the battle was relatively close, within about 5%, but the cohort of armored horse archers under General Philippus Anatoluicus found an opening to flank charge a fragmented warband--and then pursued into another flank charge on another fragmented warband, and then a flank charge on a good order auxilia palatina. That pushed the Soissons army over the 60% mark and ended the battle.
A screenshot of the end of the battle. The byzantine cavalry was between the Soissons army and their original deployment area. You can see the aftermath of the early stages of the battle near where the mouse cursor is. Good game to Ulysisgrunt, it was close right up to the end. A couple of chain routs/cavalry pursuits into flank charges really did a number on the Soissons infantry. Well played!

Division A
sunnyboy (Lydian) beat SnuggleBunnies (Thracian) 44-18
The Lydians managed to somewhat successfully maneuver away from the broken ground that dominated much of the centre of the map. With the fight mostly on open ground the Thracian medium offensive spear struggled to match the Lydians armoured hoplites.
Thanks for the game, well played.

Weekly round-up
A very interesting situation is developing in Division A where early frontrunner CheAhn (Arab Conquest) has now lost a second match to leave him 10 points clear of second-placed harveylh (Khorasanian) who now has 4 games in hand. Further back both Nosy_Rat (Abbasid) and Triarii (Spanish) have 2 wins from 3 starts and could still challenge for the top position. Something very weird is happening in Division B where just 1 point separates second from ninth. rbodleyscott (Arab Conquest) seems to have decided he is better off out of whatever is happening and has gone to the front with 2 wins and a draw from his first 3 matches. GDod (Arab Conquest) is the early leader in Division C with 4 wins from 5 starts while Schweetness101 (Abbasid) has extended his lead in Division D with his fifth win from 6 starts. Questar17 (Pictish) has started well by winning his first 2 matches.

Division D
Schweetness101 - Arab (Abbasid) 874-946 AD defeated Garokan - Byzantine 963-987 AD: 54-23
Expecting an infantry battle, I lined up with a mostly infantry force with a decent complement of cavalry, but was surprised to find myself facing an army that was the opposite! The Byzantines had a small infantry force in their middle, and a very wide line of cavalry on each side. I marched forward as quickly as possible with my best infantry in the middle to take out what infantry the Byzantines did have, while drawing in my flanks as much as possible to delay the inevitable cavalry double envelopment. The Byzantine outnumbered skoutatoi fell quickly to veteran dailami foot, and a few cavalry routs on each side made up the rest of the Byzantine casualties.
