What have the Habsburgs ever done for us

Post by awesum4 »

I am starting a new campaign based on the Habsburgs in both Austria and Spain during the period covered by "the age of Machiavelli" section of these rules.

There will be 2 sides a) the Habsburgs
b) their enemies, mainly France. i am taking suggestions for the name of this side

There will be either 6 or 7 players on each side, but there will be 6 rounds of battles, each round you will play a different member of the other team.

The current campaign (30 years war) has 12 players all of whom have played the entire campaign and fought their battles in a timely manner. So those 12 have first dibs on taking part in the new campaign.

Each round will be a different year starting in 1494 ending in 1557. Players will only be able to use armies from that year.

So expressions of interest and suggestions for a name for the antis are most welcome.

Andre, that sounds like an excellent idea. I will be happy to join in, with no particular preference between the Hapsburgs or their Aunties,

Thanks for organising this and putting time into it.

A change is said to be as good as a rest, so I shall take to the field once again, this time in loyal support of the Holy Roman Emperor please.

Sign me up if there is space. Doesn't matter which side. I need to get revenge from the terrible drubbing I'm getting in SJ. 😁

Thanks for organising another tournament Andre. Count me in please, I would prefer the anti Habsburgs (Habsburg's NMEs?) purely because I was a Holy Roman last time, but I prepared to take it on the chin and be a Habsburg.

Sounds like a good period for a campaign. Like the idea of commanding a Spanish army of that period. Hapsburg is my preference.

In answer to the question:- What did the Habsburgs do for us? "Well, rather a lot actually, as Alexander Faludy's two recent books show
  • 1. Ethnic fragmentation was contained because the emperor “became the almost exclusive focus of loyalty and symbol of an idea that transcended nation.”
  • 2. Domestic super-piety put something numinous at the heart of the “Holy Roman Empire”, over which the imperial family presided
...or as the French-side says... BOLLOCKS!
