Raid: Sassanids attack Aetius39 in Phoenicia (XXV).
Aetius (Romans) defeats Stew (Sassanids) 54-29
The Sassanids landed an amphibious assault, which surprised the Romans, who had yet to have seen, or heard of, an "ocean". Nevertheless, the legions did what they always trained to do, albeit with high casualties from the tenacious enemy. GG!

So it was that scene from Saving Private Ryan, except with Cataphracts and Horse Archers pouring out of the landing craft.....Aetius39 wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 2:19 pm Raid: Sassanids attack Aetius39 in Phoenicia (XXV).

Re: An Empire in Flames - Campaign II: Ongoing
Just a brief update on Stew and my remaining match. We are properly stuck in and many, many men are dying in the melee. We have about 6 turns each left, and our CinC are in melee with each other at basically equal odds. So pretty much anything could happen at this point. But whatever does happen, will probably happen pretty soon.

Wow, ancient drama: thanks for report! You’re both aware that getting your own C-in-C killed doesn’t yield any benefits?Geffalrus wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 2:51 am Just a brief update on Stew and my remaining match. 2a. Conquest: Geffalrus (Romans III, 1575 FP) versus Stew101 (Romans I, 1575 FP) in Italia (XIII)
Geffalrus wins by killing Stew's CinC in hand to hand combat and now has to worship a new god.
The battle was leaning in the favor of the young newly crowned emperor of the Panonian Legions and their Iazygid allies, but certainly far from over. The Western Emperor took command of a penal legion and charged into the fray against the strange auxilliary unit guarding the open flank of the Pannonian line. They spoke a strange language and had what one might call the "Dunwich Look" about them, but they could certainly fight. Alongside the young emperor they stood their ground and helped the nearby legions hold firm even when their subcommander died and the painted tribesmen of the west came boiling out of a nearby blood-soaked villa. No one knows what blade struck down the Western Emperor, but the Iazygid cavalry whisper that it was the Deep Speech of the Sleeping God in Far Off Leng that they heard as they galloped up to assist the young emperor. The young emperor has decreed that all shields be emblazoned with some sigils that some say roughly translate to.......C'thulhu F'tagn.
Final position of the main line:

Round IV (266-268 AD): Administration
What a round and what drama! The Roman world is shaken and power structures have been made and unmade. But it's all still up in the air!
In this round IV, the victor of a Conquest attack gains control over the loser's province-at-stake, plus two additional provinces, i.e., three provinces per victory. Plus any additional provinces from killing the enemy C-in-C (such number being equal to the aggregate occasions that an C-in-C has fallen in battle during the campaign).
The rules are not clear on which additional provinces, but I've made the amendment and clarification that it only applies to provinces controlled by the loser at the beginning of the round. It benefits me in this round, but that's not the motivation ( ), the reason is to maintain balance.

Changes to province control
- Aetius39 gains control from kronenblatt over one province: Aegyptus (XXX) (since Arabia (XXVI) is now sadly Lost to The Empire).
- Aetius39 gains control from Geffalrus over four provinces: Thracia (XVI), Bithynia et Pontus (XVIII), Asia (XIX), Galatia (XX).
- Geffalrus gains control from Stew101 over four provinces: Italia (XIII), Raetia (VIII), Agri Decumates (VI), and Narbonensis (VII).
- kronenblatt gains control from Stew101 over three provinces: Africa (XXIX), Mauretania (XXVIII), Hispania (XXVII).
- kronenblatt's Arabia (XXVI), leading him to suffer a permanent -50 FP penalty in all future Conquest battles, i.e., at 1550 FP currently.
- Franks and Alamans are not allowed to raid any of Stew101's provinces next round.
- Sassanids are not allowed to raid any of Aetius39's provinces next round.

Round V (268-270 AD): attack declarations
Attack declarations (order based on number of controlled provinces)
- Geffalrus (10.5 provinces, 1575 FP, 1 C-in-C's fallen in battle): May 20
- Aetius39 (9.5 provinces, 1600 FP, 0 C-in-C's fallen in battle): May 21
- Stew101 (4.5 provinces, 1575 FP, 1 C-in-C's fallen in battle): May 22
- kronenblatt (3 provinces, 1550 FP, 0 C-in-C's fallen in battle): May 23
- No Raid attacks by Franks and Alamans upon any of Stew101's provinces are allowed this round.
- No Raid attacks by Sassanids upon any of Aetius39's provinces are allowed this round.
- The attack declaration should be made in a post in the campaign thread on the forum.
- There are two types of attacks (Conquest and Raid).
- Players are each round required (if possible) to declare one Conquest attack but can decide whether to also declare one Raid attack that round.
- A player’s Conquest and Raid attacks in a round cannot be made upon one and the same Roman faction but must be made upon two different Roman factions.
- Example on how to express an attack declaration:
- Conquest: kronenblatt attacks rs2excelsior's Italia (XIII) from Raetia (VII).
- Raid: Franks attack Germania Inferior (IV) from homelands.
- Raid: Franks attack from Germania Inferior (IV). (this normal raid attack requires Germania Inferior (IV) to have already been successfully raided and thus looted by the Franks.)
- (Sea) Raid: Goths attack Macedonia (XVII) from homelands. (sea raid attacks are always made from Goths' homelands.)
- Date (midnight CET (Rome) time) above indicates deadline, after which opportunity for you to declare attack is forfeited and the player next in line may declare his attack.
- Once you have declared an attack, please PM the player next in line, who will then be free to declare his attack, up to his deadline, so we all don't need to wait for each player's deadline.

Sorry, but you cannot make both attacks upon one and the same player.
