Suppression does not last?

Post by Douaumont »

I've been noticing that when a defending unit is suppressed (say to level 5) by arty or air and is subsequently attacked by a ground unit, it's suppression level reverts back to 0? This makes subsequent ground attacks on the unit harder, when logically they should be easier. Is this a glitch or is it by design? Anyone else experiencing this?

I was under the impression it was by design? I read that after the first ground attack a unit is no longer suppressed? So maybe it's better to suppress once, attack, suppress again, and attack again? I haven't tried it.

Its by design. I had the exact same question in a previous post.

Units rally and recover from all suppression after any close or standard engagement.
The reason artillery is so powerful is because you can stack suppression before a critical battle with a mass artillery barrage, much akin to the historical artillery barrages that were prelude to countless battles of World War 2.

For example:

Thanks guys! Did not see the earlier post. The video was interesting, my first attempt at the 1940 campaign did not go even remotely as well :)) I will see how I can do this time, thanks again!

THere is no such thing as a stupid question...if you don't know the answer the stupid thing would be to not ask!

Anyway on to your question no its not.

In both titles initative determines who fires first (the higher the better) both sides get a roll generating either a 0, 1 or 2 this adds to thier initative score along with any bonus's (experience, entrenchemnt etc) with the highest result getting first shot

when attacked each shot (1 per strength point) can either miss, kill a strength point or suppress a strength point, a suppressed strength point does not fight back (though there is a percentage that can depending on the differences between initative scores) Hence Strat bombers, ships and artillery that cause suppression to last until the next ground combat can be really good for softening a position, if they manage to suppress all a units strength points then they wont fight back!

Hope that helps
