Red Dawn 2.00 (Feb 2012)
Introduction
Red Dawn is a fictitious, hypothetical, ridiculously contrived look at a ‘what if’ situation at the end of World War Two in Europe. US General George S. Patton states in his memoir War As I Knew It that he believed the US 3rd Army should have been allowed to press on to take Prague before the Russians did in early May 1945 (p.309). This campaign is based on a wider application of that belief to Allied forces and a more belligerent opposing belief by the Russians.
In the opening scenarios, you will fight to finally defeat the Germans with the option to push harder and take Berlin, Prague or Vienna - the result of which will be an international incident and a Russian counter move. Even if these cities are not taken it will become apparent that Stalin is not content with eastern Europe and wants the whole of the continent.
Your task is to stop him and push back harder and stronger than the Russians to be able to threaten Moscow itself with your long-range bombers, including the famous Enola Gay and its deadly payload.
A corresponding assumption is that the Japanese surrendered after Hiroshima and that the Nagasaki atomic bomb, Fat Man, may be deployed against the Russians. In Red Dawn, nuclear weapons are not used and a US defeat or victory will not eventuate in their use, either. The deterrent value of the weapon is its main effect in the campaign.
Installation
Note that, due to some scenarios in this campaign having been designed using the pre-version 1.05 Editor, some scenarios are encrypted and require the player to have one or more of the Grand Campaign DLCs installed to play it.
1. Download and extract the Red Dawn campaign self-extracting file to your Panzer Corps user data folder in the “Mods” sub-folder. This is usually found under your “My Documents” folder.
2. Download and extract the Red Dawn data self-extracting file to your GME folder. This can be in a number of locations, but often is in your main Panzer Corps data folder.
3. Documentation download
• GME: the General Mod Enabler (GME) needs to be installed for Red Dawn. When installing the Red Dawn data in the GME it will ask a question about overriding the efx.pzdat – answer ‘Yes’. Order of application in the GME: Massi’s Land Pack; then Real Sound Mod; then Red Dawn campaign data.
• Sound: requires the Real Sound Mod Redux for sounds to function. Red Dawn uses a custom efx.pzdat file, which uses sounds from the RSM.
• Massi’s Land Pack: whilst the campaign will run, it will look strange without it! Download and install in the GME folder.
• Equipment and effects: a custom equipment.pzeqp and efx.pzdat file is used by Red Dawn. The additions and changes are listed in the Change Log in the documentation.
A future update of Red Dawn will incorporate more graphics and images specific to an Allied campaign.
The campaign was designed and tested on Colonel difficulty level.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers

Hello,
Maybe I should have been more awaken but I read your readme file too late and indirectly I understood this was an Allied campaign.
I started this campaign like any other where by default this is a German campaign.
I stopped the Americans very soon, now I own the Soviet forces.
Can I keep going on playing or is it a campaign designed for the Allied side only ?
Maybe for the next release you should clearly say to players to change the default settings of Pz Corps and to play the campaign on the Allied side.
But I love this campaign, a great idea. You realized my dream: a WW3 campaign in end 1945-1946 between Western Powers and USSR
Maybe you could rework my own scenario and use it in your campaign if you want:
http://www.pegww2.net/Campaigns/PzCorps ... Rising.zip
My scenario is based on Dessau map, the tip is that a VH is located on an island (in the north east) where only airborne units can capture it and there are only two roads where the Soviets can start thier offensive, then Soviets have air superiority.
Comments of a player:
"Gave a try at Red Storm Rising.
The major issue I found was that airplanes seem incapable of refueling.
As far as I can see all airplanes on the scenario seem to suffer from that, independently of side or nation.
Maybe its mandatory to define air refueling points when defining scenario settings...
Other than that there are only one or two places where roads end somewhat abruptly, which is only aesthetics.
The general ideat is interesting and it could be the starting point for a campaign... probably involving new countries and surely with an extended e-file".
I had not checked the air points issue. Feel free to add this scenario in your next release if you want.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing here - the campaign can *only* be played as the US - there is no option for playing as the Russians. Perhaps you mean the multiplayer scenario, The Evil Empire Strikes Back? If so, that is intended for MP and, even though you can play it against the AI, I suspect the AI will not be much of a challenge. Unless all files are not properly installed?
If I get a chance I'll have a look at your scenario. Cheers.

In Panzer Corps by default any campaign is on the German side.
I you don't tell explicitelly in your readme file that the campaign must be played on the allied side then everyone will make the same mistake as I did.
I do not speak about MP.
This is well the standalone campaign.
After stopping the Americans with the Wehrmacht I am now on the Soviet side.

OK, but the campaign.pzdat that comes with my download will put you on the US side - can you check that it is properly installed, please? As I said, if everything is installed correctly you cannot play both sides and you can *only* play as the US. That's why it's a mod - it changes the original setup.
Does anyone else have this issue?

People who have this campaign installed: can you please just start it again and see if the sides can be chosen? (Don't save the game, of course, unless you want to). If anyone has the same issue as RobertCL can you please report it and check that the correct campaign.pzdat is installed in the Generic Mod Enabler folder and in the Data folder. Cheers

Hi gunhojr. I sent you a PM. Note that the instructions are in the first post and the installation is intended to use the Generic Mod Enabler. In any case, if you manually move all the files in all the folders to their corresponding Panzer Corps folders it will still work. I still strongly suggest using the GME though. Cheers and let us know how you go.

To be completely honest with you…
I am in the middle of it – and enjoying it immensely. But it has sat for a few days now. I have been sidetracked with making my own (short) campaign. And since I have been having a lot of issues with that and trying to get the AI to understand what is going on and balancing, etc. – it has taken much longer than I thought it would.
But I can tell you that so far, it is an awesome campaign. Haven’t noticed anything yet that needed changing.
