THE FUTURE OF WARGAMING
Every year we organize the Slitherine Group's Annual Press Conference HOME OF WARGAMERS and we invite our development partners to present the games to our media friends. Each edition adds something special: in 2012 we hosted the event in Stresa and for the first time we had live coverage that hundreds of players followed in the forums. Last year, we hosted it in Fredericksburg, Virginia alongside Historicon.

Question Time Live on Twitch TV
While the games present themselves and the developers behind them are at the very core of the event, we are also offering you the chance to ask us questions. On the 14th May, the first day of the event, we will be hosting Question Time, where the attending journalists and guests will be able to fire any question at our panel. The panel will consist of JD McNeil (Chairman), Iain McNeil (Development Director) and Marco Minoli (Marketing Director), who will be ready to provide their insights and explain the company’s plans.
Those of you at home will be able to follow Question Time online via our livestream and you are encouraged to send in your own questions by either sending them in advance (email), typing them in the Twitch chat or by tweeting them using #HoW14.
Question Time will take place on the 14th of May and will start at 16.15 CET. You will be able to watch the event online here and you can submit any questions in advance by emailing us.

Home of Wargamers - the Bishops Room
We are overjoyed that we are finally ready to share with you more details on the great Home of Wargamers event that will be hosted in May this year. We still are very busy with the preparations, so that everything will be run as smooth as possible during the event. We are eager to show you all the different games we are currently working on and we hope your are looking forward to the event as much as we do!
As you perhaps already know, this year Home of Wargamers will be hosted in the beautiful castle of Pavone Canavese. This is a great historical location and within the castle there are many halls and rooms that have this great medieval feel to it. We will be presenting our games in four of these stylishly restored medieval rooms. Each of these four rooms will have a theme or category, dictating the kind of games that will be on display there. Our guests will transferring from room to room, giving this year’s Home of Wargamers a unique set-up.
The room we are going to reveal to you now is called the Bishops Room. The Bishops Room will be dedicated to fantasy and science-fiction. In this room we will present you several details on Sovereignty: Crown of Kings, The latest version of Space Program Manager and of course an update on the development of the game many sci-fi fans are waiting for; Warhammer 40.000 Armageddon.
New information released
As the Home of Wargamers is drawing closer, we thought it would be the right time to give you another update on what will take place. Last week we announced the basic setup for the presentations, as well as an indication of some of the games that will be presented and we will be announcing more of these in the near future. Today we would like to focus more on the location and the various events that will be going on around the presentations.
Firstly we would like to point out that the Home of Wargamers event is a great chance to have a Gamers Dream holiday in the magnificent medieval Costello de Pavone, Canavese. The Castello has been besieged four times throughout its history, but has never once been taken! However we are taking over the entire Castello for the 3 days of the event!! The castle has been perfectly maintained and restored and the rooms are outfitted with all the luxuries that you could wish for, without losing any of their original medieval charm. This includes the main presentation areas, as well as the dining halls and of course your guest ‘billets’.
We will start the event on the first day with a drinks reception in the authentic 14th century court yard (if weather allows), after which we gather for a special event, as yet to be disclosed! In the evening we will assemble in the truly amazing Knights Hall, where a Medieval Banquet will be served.
On the second day, after a knightly breakfast, we will present a varied assortment of soon to be released games (more details will follow soon!) and you will be free to engage directly with the developers and the team. In the evening you are invited to dine in King Arduin’s Hall (Let me google him for you) where the Grand Gala Dinner will take place.
On the third and final day, we will end the event with a tournament, of our upcoming title Battle Academy 2. Where you will have the chance to match yourself against the Matrix/Slitherine team, our developers and of course the journalists in a scenario specifically designed for the Home of Wargamers event, where you can compete for several BIG prizes, and of course the bragging rights.
The game presentations will form the core of the Home of Wargamers event, but the location and our schedule of events will make this a unique and memorable occasion, so don’t forget to bring your camera.
Update March 21 - the Peacock Room
Last week we informed you about a lot of the things that will be going on during Home of Wargamers other than the game presentations. This week we will share with you the second presentation room as well as a number of the games that will be presented there. As you might already know, the game presentations will be split across four different presentation rooms. A couple of weeks ago, we announced the first (Bishops Room) which will be dedicated to Fantasy and Sci-Fi games.
This week we are pleased to present to you room number 2, the Pavone, or Peacock Room. This room will be dedicated to showing PC wargamers. Here we are going to showcase a number of games that have not even been officially announced, however, we have decided to discuss a couple of them anyway.
Ageod will be one of the developers presenting in the Pavone Room, and they will be showing three games that are currently being worked on under the Ageod flag. Hannibal: Terror of Rome is an Alea Jacta Est game currently in development, which has as its main focus the Second Punic War when Rome was threatened by the invading army of Hannibal Barca. Ageod will also be showing two other games. One of which will be announced shortly, the other one we will be announcing at the event itself.
Of course Ageod will not be the only company presenting their games. We will also be showing you what we have been working on for War in the West, a game from 2by3 Games who were responsible for bringing you the monster games of War in the East and War in the Pacific. These games are consistently rated among the top wargames and we are trying to further improve the series.
We are also proud to be able to share with you the latest development news on Strategic Command 3, a game in the famous grand strategy Strategic Command Series. This game is scheduled for next year, but we are sure there are a lot of fans interested in seeing how far the development has progressed!
In the Peacock Room, players will also be able to get the latest information on Brother Against Brother, a Civil War strategy game that is currently in development by the guys from Western Civilization Software. The game will feature several major battles of the American Civil War where the players have to command their troops on a regimental level.
Last but not least we will be showing you a new incarnation of one of the most famous wargaming series. This operational level wargame will bring all the classic gameplay of the previous titles in the series and improves and enhances them. While we are not yet ready to officially announce the game, we are convinced that we can make a lot of fans very happy with this game.
Update March 28 - Crusaders Hall
Home of Wargamers is less than two months away and we have already announced a great number of games we will be showing there, as well as some of the other activities that will be going on. Today we will be revealing some of the games that will be shown in the Sale Crociati, or the Crusaders Hall.
In the Crusaders Hall, we will be showing you a wide variety of different games. First of all, we will be presenting two Close Combat games. Close Combat: Gateway to Caen has already been announced some time ago and is currently in beta. The other Close Combat game we will be showing is yet to be named, but it will be the first Close Combat game based on a new engine. Rock Paper Shotgun posted an interview on the upcoming Close Combat game, which can be found here.
Another major title we will be displaying in the Crusaders Hall is Battle Academy 2. This highly anticipated sequel to the Battle Academy series brings the Franchise to the Eastern Fronts and lets players command the armies of the Soviet Union for the first time in Battle Academy history. As we announced earlier, players will not only be seeing the game, but have a chance to play the game as well and compete for awesome prices.
Finally we are also showing two games which have to remain unannounced for now. I can tell you however that these will both be great looking games that make the best possible use of the latest Battle Academy engine. This engine has proven to be both very powerful and flexible and we have given external developers a chance to show you just how creative this engine can be used!
Update April 4 - The Cuirasses Room
Home of Wargamers is drawing closer and so far we have already revealed most of the content to be presented in three of a total of four presentation rooms, as well as most of the other activities surrounding the game presentations. Today, we are happy to tell you what can be seen in the Corazze Room, or Cuirasses Room, which will be dedicated to mobile and iPad games.
In the Cuirass Room we will be presenting iPad games mainly focused on (military) strategy. The first game that will be presented there is the stylish Frontline: Road to Moscow, a light and engaging strategy game where the player takes command of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front during World War II. People will be happy to know that this game will also be available for iPhone as well as iPad.
The highly anticipated Order of Battle: Pacific is also to be presented at Home of Wargamers. This beautiful looking game is played in a similar way to the successful Panzer Corps series, and is sure to be one of the greatest releases for iPad (and PC).
The third game to be presented in the Cuirass Room has yet to be announced, but we can tell you that it will be a strategy game with a very cleverly designed combat system and is focused on the Western Front in 1944. More details will follow soon!
Aside from the games mentioned above, there will be playable versions of Qvadriga, Commander: The Great War and the strategy classic Gary Grigsby’s World at War: A World Divided. These are all games that are already available on PC, but will very soon make the jump to the tablet.
This concludes the updates on the four different presentation rooms. We have shared with you as much as we currently can, including many awesome games. Of course we are still very much in the process of organizing the event and more details will become available in the coming weeks. We are all very much looking forward to Home of Wargamers and we are confident that we can live up to the expectations set by our previous events.
