Re: No Hoplites for Sparta?

You can dock your boat in any coastal town which make it safe. All the factions in game were tested on normal difficulty if player can win with them and it is possible. You should also train your units with improvements and take advantage of terrain which is in favour of your army type. Ok... maybe...

Re: No Hoplites for Sparta?

Well didn't get nowhere with Sparta, my boat get sunk in 1 attack ... Not much chance with Massilia neither, gobbled by Rome. Indeed small nations have no chance, you get steamrolled by the big league whatever you do, even if you have the highest attitude and alliances with them they attack you a co...

Re: No Hoplites for Sparta?

Hello PDiFolco, welcome to the forum and thank you for purchase!:) Playing Sparta as a first faction is very bold decision especially when you play on normal or higher difficulty (where all the features are already turned on). I would really recommend to play one of the "Big three" and also go thro...

No Hoplites for Sparta?

Well, just got the game, I still s*ck at it ...
Playing Sparta I don't understand why I can't build any hoplites ? It was only possible in the Cretan city, that I lost to Athens (but I took Athens and Delphi from them!).
Fighting Rome with Peltasts is a bleak prospect...

Game price...

I prefer to buy directly from publisher, but for A:AR it costs 29$ here vs 25$ on Steam and GoG... don't think you'll get much sales ! :|

Re: Trait Ambusher,Guerrilla

It's actually very tricky. I had a forest ambusher. He attacked a forest region without walls. Took it on first battle with a +1 to his units' attack score. On the same turn, an enemy stack arrived, belatedly, to the region. My ambusher general now gave -1 to all units' defense because he was now i...

Most people don't fancy reading a 220 page manual before they can play a game.
The original Civ manual had 100+ pages IIRC. Despite that, it turned out pretty well IIRC.
Yes, but in that distant time people actually did know how to read and write

Re: Any plans to include more unit types from earlier Field of Glory II DLCS?

All FoGE armies translates to FoG2, it's not DLC dependent...
You can't have FoG2 Assyrian chariots or Vikings because they arent in FoGE at all due to time period.

Re: Way too much pop growth...

In terms of demographics, don't overestimate the influence of wars either. Even the immense Punic wars didn't really alter the demographical situation of the western Hemisphere as a whole. Armies were a lot smaller than we witnessed the last century and wars were not as taxing on the population in ...

Re: Way too much pop growth...

I'm guessing you're not building enough loyalty buildings. Loyalty is easily controlled when you have tier 3 culture buildings like the circus. Yes, they add decadence but if you get say 20 loyalty for 0.5 decadence, you can put those extra citizens to culture (which also gives you loyalty) and off...

Way too much pop growth...

Huge pop growth is the only thing in the game that I find un-immersive, because totally unrealistic, and even pretty ludicrous.. The world is full of 25-35 cities <by turn 200, and even desert regions have more than 15 pop!!! And as more pop = more unrest, the player is enticed to limit growth and m...

Re: Unwanted Regions

I think Pocus said this is just a short-term fix because clearly there needs to be a way to prevent AI from DOWing you and forcing you to increase decadence by taking their land, since that's the only way to beat them in a war. Well I don't think the issue lies in AI behavior, we just need to *not ...

Nice, pretty innovative and fun play, reminds me of Ironborn !😁
Why not attacking Egypt? Much better than crappy Germany (it's a game opinion only :P )

Re: an historical game ?

If you look for skirmishers you have to enlist them on the Mediterranean Isles, named Mercenary Skirmishers. The mercenary skirmishers recruited from the islands are exported as slingers in FoG2. This might be a programming error though. It's a bit strange and not historical to be that limited in s...

Quick question: what does a spinning wreath moving anti-clockwise around a city mean? I don't mean the clockwise spinning banner that tells you a city is an objective.

Thanks!

Re: More Initial Thoughts

As Carthage I've found that alliance with Numidia doesn't work... they'll dow you anyway even reduced to 1 region! Now if I play them again I will first consolidate Africa, then Sardinia then Sicily, maybe abandoning Spain. I think it's still good to dow Rome early, especially to prevent them from b...

Re: an historical game ?

IMHO the game really well translates the Ancient times historical dynamics. Units are historical, map, tribe names, political systems are as well. The various parameters to manage are quite historical as well: food, unrest, conquests, pop and slave management... Sure a game will soon stray quite afa...
